Visit the Crawford/Bhuelshwar/Mumbadev/Zaveri market area, one of India's largest. Different areas sell different stuff--fish, diamonds, gold, auto parts, clothing, etc. Ask around for the Mumba Devi temple, which celebrates the city's eponymous goddess. The Crawford fishmarket opens at dawn and is inside one of those gothic warehouses. There is also a slaughterhouse nearby--worth a walkthrough.

If you're really intrepid, make your way to Dharavi:

It's the heart and soul of Mumbai.

Woah some good info there thanks merchant and snakehead.

Why do you reckon stay in my hotel for the first day and sleep? Is that to rest after travelling? I should be ok since I am only flying from the UK, Via Abu Dhabi. Not too many hours so I wont be all that tired. Not bad compared to the UK Australia flight which is much longer.

As for the getting lost part, I dont have a compass but Ill take cards with me when i leave hotel doors.

****Oh and another thing*****
Mumbai I hear is the bollywood capital of India. I would love to see some of this stuff going on, is there any particular area which is really bollywood?

You mean the Gateway of India. India Gate's in New Delhi !

Crossroads is correct.

mushyosh,
You should also visit Land's end, Hill Road and Linking Road at Bandra West, in the suburbs.

It has as much to do with the time zones and getting adjusted as dealing with physical tiredness -- you can cope with the differences because you are still 'running on adrenalin' but the best way to adjust is to take the first day 'off' and hang around your hotel resting, reading your lonely planet guide, and venturing out for meals and to check out the local area. Colaba, in Mumbai, is good for being able to wander around and see a lot close by your hotel.
