Talking Traveling to Mumbai (March 24th-27th)

Hi,

I'll be in Mumbai from March 24th-27th. I'm leaving to go back to the States in May so I'm now trying to visit a few cities in India. Mumbai is next on my list. Can someone tell me how much it costs to go to Elephanta Island? I'm also looking for a hip, upscale dance club to check out on Friday and Saturday night. Can anyone recommend any? I'd also like to meet some Mumbai IMers. Anyone free that weekend?

Hi Cecilia,
As far as going to Elephanta caves, it's not at expensive. I would not even worry about that cost if I were you. As far as nightclubs in Bombay, I would recommend Polly Esther's. It is a retro music club. They play stuff from the late 70s to the mid90s and occasionally some new stuff. But most of the music is from the 80s. Clubbing in Bombay can be pretty pricy. Considering that, Polly Esther's is very reasonable - especially since everything that you pay at the entrance contributes to drink tickets. It's about Rss 500 to enter (and this includes drink tickets). Try and get there a little early if you wanna dance a lot. It gets pretty packed later at night. It is a very popular place. I've heard Club Athena is pretty good too - kinda pricy but very good. If I think of other places, I will let you know. Hope this helps.

Great! Thanks for the info Pranav! BTW, will I be able to visit Elephanta Caves on March 25th? Isn't that day Holi? Are the sight seeing places open?

Well, I haven't celebrated Holi in about 8 years so I don't keep track of when it is anymore. I have no reason to believe that the sights will be closed. If I were you, I'd consider visiting on another day. Hope this helps.

There are plenty of good places to go on a Friday/Saturday in Mumbai. It really depends on where you want to go, north or south Mumbai. Some good places in South are Red Light, Polly Esthers, Isomnia, Velocity, Provogue, Lush Lounge...

In north its Enigma, Rain, Vie Lounge, Bed Lounge...

Elephanta and Night Life

Hi,

About Elephanta Island, You will get the Boat from Appollo Bunder, and it will exactly take 1 Hour to reach. The charges for Return trip by boat will be around Rs: 100 and the entrance fees for foreigners at Elephanta will eb around $ 2 or $5, i am not sure.

About the Night Life, there are so many night clubs and discotheques around colaba area, the decent ones.

Regards,

Amit Kesari

** Be sure that, you will have to leave from Elephanta Island before 5 pm as there are no boats available after that, and there are no accommodations also available.

If you want to knoe more, get in touch with me. Dont worry about the Holi, as you will really enjoy.

hi cecelia,

The trip to Elephanta Caves, cost around rs.60 and rs.90/-If u return back by evening,it would be worth climbing to the top of the launch(the guy might take a 10 buck for that)Beware of monkeys at the island, they grab eatables from your hand.

Most of the good disco ,start from bandra to colaba,,,,,,,your could check out Club IX on pali hill, there Placebo, athena,,,,,,,u could find out more by checking the midday newspaper when u reach bombay,or call up 28888888 ,which is your yellow pages to anything u want to find out,ok?as for partners,i'm sure u'd find that Mumbaities, are very enterprising .Hope u have a good stay.
