The FASTEST way of getting from Mumbai Int. airport to Mumbai Domestic

Hi All,

I am landing at Mumbai International on a Sat at 3:05am, My internal domestic flight goes at 4:55am on a different carrier. What will be the fastest way of going from the International Terminal to the Domestic? Both carriers are different so I am having to leave the airport and do full check in again at the domestic airport.

I realise this is probably not enough time to catch it but its due to annoying schedule changes! fortuntly i have a later flight booked as backup, but would still rather attempt to make the earlier flight

Thanks for your help

Fastest way is walk out of the airport and wave a wad of notes at the nearest taxi. Prepaid or not, these are not normally happy plying short distances.

I would see if I can check in at the international airport- as far as I know some domestic airlines have/had counters there.

There's a free bus service that runs inside the airport perimeter. Let them know you're short of time and make sure you're on the first one.

The inter terminal free bus service will be the best bet but I doubt you will be able to make it in the short time that you have at your disposal. By the time you go through immigration, collect your baggage and go through customs it will be about 45 minutes at least and then by the time you get the bus and reach the domestic terminal it will be another half an hour so even if your aircraft arrives on time and you get out immediately without any delays, you hardly have any time to check in at the domestic terminal which is at least an hour before departure time. I would advise you to cancel the first ticket you have and go with the next flight peacefully. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Maybe by notifying the first carrier, you might get priority your baggage. Arrange for the next carrier to meet you and take you to check in.

If you could just say that and get your bags offloaded before everyone else's, I would claim that I had tight onward connections every single time I flew with checked baggage!

You could show the tickets. They've got 1 hour 50mins anyway.

Operational logistics are not in your favor.

While your airline may say arrival is at 0305 hrs; that is *not* the timing for opening of the door of the aircraft at the jetway. Which could be about 8-10 minutes.

Depending on where you are seated, it could take another 1-5 minutes. If your aircraft has landed at the far side gates, you'll have to walk all the way to the other-end of the airport for immigrations, another 6-10 minutes.

You'll go through a snaking line for H1N1 screening which will add about 2-10 minutes.

Immigrations can take depending on the number of heavies landing just prior to your aircraft - another 4-10 minutes.

Heaven forbid you have checked luggage and the conveyor belt is in terminal 2B, which is another walk. Add 2-5 minutes *if* the luggage has arrived at the belt and is at there for you. If you have no checked baggage, only carryon then add 1-3 minutes to go through screening of customs.

This puts you at 0328 hrs at *best*. You now have about one hour and 15 minutes,to be in the domestic airport, through all their procedures and security screening, and seated in the aircraft for take off.

This is based on a recent actual timing of a person who arrived in slow in coming traffic hour.

If you find that the inter terminal bus is not going to depart within 10 minutes of your presence, best is to follow what Capt. has suggested. Being early morning hours, there won't be much traffic.
