aaaaaaaaagggggggghhhhhhh...... .have been dying to visit That Byculla museum since late november.dont know when will it open ....
If the photos printed in news paper are real indicators then that place must be really fantastic ........

Anyway what about historical churches or restored houses in South and Central Mumbai, which are relevant from both historical and architechtural point of view......any info on them....

Aadil if i can make out correctly then the pic of IWTGB in her profile seems to be taken in Rock Garden in Chandigarh, else it looks more like some Moorish structure.

whatever .....still INS Vikrant deserves one visit....it not might be that state of art warship-cum- aircraft carrier but still its the singular mammoth that guarenteed the security of whole of western coastline at a time

Hi Vibhu,

Yes, the Vikrant still is a great day out if possible to arrange a visit as they have a lot of the original stuff on board the aircraft carrier as well as a museum with old paraphernalia about uniforms and other stuff that I read about. Anything to go on board for a good look and some fantastic photo opportunities if possible, especially since I make aircraft and ship scale models too!!!

About the Bhau Daji Lad Museum it is really worth seeing as I have also just managed a peek inside from the closed gates but would love to go inside when it opens finally, hope it is someday soon!!!

About the churches restored in the South Mumbai area there is the St. Thomas' Cathedral which is really worth visiting after it's recent restoration and also the Afghan Church in Colaba too. Been there a lot of times and find the place pretty cool!!!

Cheers,
Aadil.

St. Thomas Cathedral lies just next to my office, have visited it a no. of times and attended the christmas eve's mass there. Have visited Afghan church also......both are beautiful church......not baroque or very elaborate but have that anglican kind of architecture where emphasis is more on busts and statues rather than on minute carving

well it is a mammoth but it just wasnt worth the 2 hour wait i had to go through to get in.

it was a fun day but honestly there just isnt anything there. they havent made a proper museum out of it and there was no proper guided tour.

it was like walking into a cave with engravings but having no clue what they mean.

maybe you guys can call and find out if they have someone who will show you around

I hope they change things for the better before we get to go onboard the IMS Vikrant!!! I am sure it will not be this month at least so they still have some time to do it up!!!

Cheers,
Aadil.
