yeah u choose the second meet date and we can tentatively decide that too
hi,
Aadil you suggest and I will poll those dates if u say 20th and 27th we will do that and see how others are placed. I was wondering aadil last time when I was seeing the map for directions in SION and matunga there were two forts in that area REVA fort and SION fort http://www.mapmyindia.com/mappage.ph... apcompe.y=50 this website i used to view them, my curiosity threw up an idea as can we do a meet where we visit one of these forts and understand a bit of history about them or may be both, as although I am born and brought up here I know nothing of these places. I am sure other members who have the travel bug in them would love to know more of such long forgotten structures. your suggestions sir. Anil |

Well, I could take you around the Fort area of South Mumbai if you wish!!! Not been to the Sion Fort but I have heard that not much remains now of these forts in Mumbai. The only portion of the fort walls that remain are in the CST area near the St. George Hospital. The rest were all broken down and removed during the time of the British when they realised that a Fort was no longer required to protect Bombay city. More about that area if you wish to read a nice book by Sharada Dwivedi and Rahul Mehrotra called Fort Walks. Reva Fort is also called as Kala Killa (Black Fort). The other forts at Bandra, Mahim, Sion have all been destroyed almost completely so not much to be seen there as far as I have been told. Would be interesting to see for myself someday. Vasai and Arnala forts are still there though most of it is in ruins. How I wish our heritage was not destroyed like this so soon.

Though 6 or 13 both are ok with me but seeing it to be a problem with few other regulars, why dont we keep a meeting on sundays instead.......
i would prefer saturdays but sunday would be better if more ppl can come. and it is a fantastic idea if we can have some tour of some historical rememnant in Mumbai ......one idea.......has that Bhao-dhao-ladoji museum in Byculla opened yet for public or how about a tour of INS Vikrant ( the retired aircraft carrier) if its still on the dock for public. Aadil and Ronak you both must try to make it........IWTGB dont worry ur birthday would be aptly taken care of atleast food wise i can assure u |

Well, I think it would be a good idea to go visit the IMS Vikrant as I have not yet gone on board the ship and would love to go aboard but then it is not open right now except during Navy Week celebrations and special occasions when it is hired out for some special functions. The last time around I missed a party on board the ship but then I guess I would not have loved visiting it for that purpose and would rather prefer to see it when it is not decked up for a party!!!
The Bhau Daji Lad Museum (erstwhile Victoria and Albert Museum) just outside the Byculla Zoo premises is still not open even though they keep announcing the opening dates every few months!!! Would love to visit this place too. Cheers, Aadil. |
