Actually, when you leave from Mumbai airport and after you checked in your luggage and went through passport and immigration you can go downstairs, where there are a couple of cafes and restaurants, shops etc, and many many long chairs, almost like beds, where people sleep until they board. This wole area downstaris is non-smoking (apart from inside the restaurants, cafes etc), quiet, clean and not very crazy at all.

Coming into Mumbai I also didn't find it particlularly crazy. But I guess it depends on the time you arrive. I happen to always have arrived in the night, when it was quieter. All you do is go through passport control, then on to collect your luggage and then through customs.

It's afterwards, when you leave the airport, that the touts and taxi drivers will swarm over you. Since I always have my taxi booked beforehand and the guy waiting for me I just walk through the crowd, stone faced, and that's it.

They are not trying to grab you and your luggage, if that's what you're scared of, Lacha.

India on the whole is quite crazy. Compared I find Mumbai airport pretty quiet.

You're fortunate to have someone fetching you!!! Just be sure you know which of the counters you're supposed to identify yourself.

what i particularly liked about mumbai airport was the row of customs officers, perhaps four or five, leaning against a wall just waving people through without even bothering with the x-ray or any check! and they smiled as they did it.

Well, that's because they are waiting for the Indian passengers to con and ask for bribes when they return with all their goodies from Singapore, London and Dubai!!! They know they are not going to get anything from the foreigners so they whisk them away without even checking their bags on the x-ray machines!!!

Cheers,
Aadil.

Hotel Residency is good value, clean, centralish, great staff, food's okay too. They have (not that great) AC, safe in the room, en-suite. This it was about Rs 2000 per night...

Residency Hotel Mumbai, 3 star Luxury in Mumbai at an affordable cost
