sleep at Mumbai (BOM) Airport
sleep at Mumbai (BOM) Airport
I'm going to arrive in Mumbai (BOM) Airport at about 1.30 am. Is there a possibility to sleep somewhere ( a nice chair would be OK ) after I get my luggage, and leave the airport at about 6 am ? (I'll not be in transfer , only international Airport) Thanks A.H ![]() |

Not really possible to do so unless you come out of the customs hall after the immigration counters, near the exit there are a row of chairs in front of the travel desks and pre-paid taxi counters which you can use to sit for sometime till it is morning. Please take care of your bags if you fall asleep on the chairs!!! Not really necessary to stay there if you have a hotel booked for your stay in Mumbai. There are taxis available throughout the night and pretty safe so not too much of a problem. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Aadil.

prepaid taxis are pretty safe as the police make a note of the number and destination of every vehicle that leaves the stand with the passenger . it may not be quite pleasant to spend the early morning at the arrival terminal in bombay .

I was in a similar situation a few months ago, I wasnt sure what to do. A guy came up to me outside the airport and said I should come to his hotel, he seemed legit, so I went and had a few hours sleep before coming back to the airport. It was an ok place, and the price was pretty reasonable too, which was a nice surprise, as I was ready to be fleeced by random touts at the airport. Just goes to show sometimes they actually are genuine and have a good offer!
Perhaps you should look out for guys like him. |

Just remembered, it was hotel 'Drop Inn', and I was there at 3am. I think it cost Rs.1500.

There is Hotel Highway Residency near Chakala (five minutes drive from the airport) which has a free pick up facility so you don't even need a taxi. Do not use their transfer services for dropping off to the airport as they charge you a lot for that. The breakfast and food at the hotel is quite good. Reasonably priced at around Rs1000 to 1500 for an airconditioned room with attached bath, TV, phone, etc. Rooms are clean and basic but cheap too. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Aadil. |

Like Aadil says, once you are out of customs check (which incidentally is just next to where you collect your bags) there is no way to sleep within the airport.
What you can do is exit the customs area and come out. Once you step out, you'll see a large hall, where a huge crowd of people will be waiting to receive arriving passengers. You could park youselves on one of the chairs there. Alternatively, next to the this waiting area, there will be a 'Paid Visitor' area. You buy a ticket here (costs Rs60) and spend time there. This paid area has fewer seats, is air-conditioned and since there are fewer people its very peaceful so that yuo could actually get some rest. The tickets are, I think, for a 1 hour waiting period. Just read the terms when you buy so you'll know how much you may have to pay. |

I flew in and out of Mumbai airport 6 times during the winter and found it to be fine .I had to wait there for 7 hours last time and just found somewhere to sit and read .
I would rather do that at Mumbai airport than Dabolim, which is a crazy place! |

Not as crazy as you think but definitely somewhat crazy to someone coming from a more developed country than India!!! I work at the Mumbai International Airport so I know how crazy it can get!!! But that should not put you off from coming here.
Cheers, Aadil. |

Don't be Lacha!!!!
- I managed from Zim and I was fine ![]() It's certainly not what you'd expect - very different in fact, but all part of the India experience.
