Shopping in Mumbai
Months ago I found a thread @ indiamike about "shopping in delhi", where a lot of you have posted their favourite malls, stores, book-shops, etc.
Well, in the meantime I´ve been to Delhi and gotta confess: that thread helped A LOT! So a s I´m going to spend some days in MUMBAI soon, I´d love to hear your suggestions concerning shopping in MUMBAI. I´d be interested in recs for: - bookshops - best place for buyin CDs / DVDs - your favourite shopping area or mall - any hints for clothes and shoes Please advise ;-) Chris |

We liked Cotton World and FabIndia for clothing and (I think) Electric House for CDS.

Bookshops: Strand Book Stall at Phirozesha Mehta Road, Fort, Mumbai 1.
Crossword at Kemps Corner, Mumbai 36. Lotus Book House at Bandra, Mumbai 50. Granth - The Book Store at Goregaon, Mumbai. Roadside stalls near the Mumbai University building and next to the American Express Bank building for some great old and new bargain priced books too. CD's & DVD's: Rhythm House at Rampart Row, Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai 1. Hiro Music House at PM Road, Fort, Mumbai 1. Clothes and Shoes: Any of the major shops on Linking Road, Bandra, Mumbai 50. Crawford (now known as Mahatma Phule) Market area, Near CST, Mumbai 1. Any of the railway stations have a lot of shops near the lanes going out towards the main road on the western side of the Western Railway usually for some great shopping too. Colaba Causeway area for some nice shoe shops as well as clothes too. Hope this helps. Cheers, Aadil.

Just to add to the above :
Books : Nalanda book shop at the Taj Hotel, Gateway of India. CDs & DVDs : Planet M at Times of India building, opposite CST station. Clothes : Fashion street - this is the street that runs parallel to Azad Maidan, from Hutatma Chowk to Metro. Hard bargaining is the norm here !

- bookshops - Crosswords, Kemps Corner, should be your first stop. Oxford at Churchgate is a distant second, Strand in colaba is supposed to be a great place as well.
- best place for buyin CDs / DVDs - Not that i buy CD's anymore but Rhythm house at Kala Ghoda for both. - your favourite shopping area or mall - Used to be Vama at Pedder Road coz it was so close but now i just go to Phoenix Mills, Lower Parel coz you can do everything and get some good solid Lunch. You can also head out to Colaba Causeway for much of the same stores though not under one roof. - any hints for clothes and shoes - Again i would recommend Phoenix Mills in general because all the stores and brands are available there. If you look for local stuff then you can try Blackberry, Raymonds both available there, if you looking for casual - dunnow i dont shop here for my denim but you can get Levis and lee and all that, same brands as you did at Delhi. -If you are looking for upmarket stuff you have Louis Vuitton, Canali, Brioni at at the Taj, Armani, Versace, Prada, Gucci at Thanx, Worli, Hugo Boss at the Oberoi. Marks & Spencer which pretends to be upmarket at phoenix, crossroads Haji Ali, Lacoste is available throughout the city and is the best bargain.

also for indian designer gear (nice to go to for some sumptuos window shopping at least.. very pricey): Courtyard Shopping mall, SP Centre, in betwee Radio Club and Fariyas Hotel, Colaba.
or Ensemble, in Crossroads malls, or bigger shop by Lion Gate, fort area. for clean and good fruit / vege / cheese / some import food - Natures Basket, World Trade Centre, Cuffe Pde. other favorites: definitly fabIndia for good cotton kurtas and home stuff also: Kala Ghoda. new shop similar to Fabindia, called Soma - about 3 buildings down from big Ravissant shop by the maidans.. a bit hidden away, on the 2nd floor.. but good clothes and good linen and stuff, most is rajastani.. great Cloth / sarees / scarves - Mangaldas market, in crawford market area: head down to the street with the police chowky at one end and the white mosque at the other and it is somewhere in the middle of that! Inox Multiplex iin nariman Point has some good shops - especially Hidesign, one of my favorite shops ever, i want every bag in there ![]() bookshops - i like crossword, kemps corner too, especially for the armchairs near the magazine section and the great cafe too.. phoenix mills is good shopping too.. yay for aldo shoes arriving in mumbai.. nothing beats shopping on colaba causeway and bargaining down tshirts, bangles, earings and sandals the Oak Tree on the otherside on the causeway, close to Levis i think, has some great clothing and jewellry. m |

...........another one ........the Bombay Store sells a mixture of household things, rugs, knick-knacks etc - clothes, journals, candles, local natural beauty products, aromatherapy stuff amongst other bits and pieces. It is in the Fort area, pretty close to the Strand bookstore.

please dont recommend b blunt to any one..as its shit crap
hi,
sorry to us e such strong words, but i use to have long hair and i chose b blunt as i wanted an unconventional look and boy i was really dissappointed by paying 850 for their top notch award winning hair dresser which they recommended and what i got was nothing but a trimming job and lot of shit shit talk of reducing volume in some places to suit my face....all they have is big name and kinkyly dressed assistants who are there to add more glamour than substance. I would never recommend that place to any one anil |
