Salwar Kameez Tailors near Fort Area Mumbai

hi, i've got just two days in Mumbai at beginning November and I want to get a couple of Salwar Kameez made up quickly for my 3 months of travels in Southern India. Can anyone recommend a good taylor in or near the Fort area where I might be able to get this done. I will be staying at the Residency Hotel so somewhere close(ish) to that would be good.

Many thanks in advance.

Gia

There is a shop selling Salwar Kameezes next to the Provogue and Raymond shops on Veer Nariman Road next to the Flora Fountain going towards the Akbarally's department store. They have readymade stuff as well as tailoring facilities so you can get the dresses altered or stitched according to your specifications. I cannot remember the name of the shop right now but if I do I will let you know. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Smile thanks

Those sound like pretty good directions...but what do I know, I've never been to Bombay...or to India for that matter.

I also appreciated the advice I read elsewhere on India Mike. Tell the taylor not to make the sleeves too tight!

Was in the area the other day and went to look for the name of the shop and found the shop has now been transformed into something else!!! So sorry about the recent changes that have been happening in that area. Sometimes it is hard to keep updated about all the shops in the area. There are some other shops in the Colaba area that would suit your purpose well like Grand Bazaar and a whole row of shops in the Colaba Causeway area which is lined with such shops but you will need to have good bargaining skills to get a good price for your clothes.

Cheers,
Aadil.

heya

Maybe the maps of wikimapia would help
Akbarally's department store (the square with the +) Coordinates: 18°55'54"N 72°49'57"E (for google earth)
flora fountain

But guess the shops moved by aadils latest post.

Cheers

Thanks, Aadil. My bargaining skills are non-existent, but I guess I have to learn some time! I will try Colaba.

One of my friend tried a ready made salwar khameez and then found a tailor that would make something smiliar with some adjustments from the ready made bought. Remember most tailors are male and not all are comfortable having a male taking measurements. If you are in a hotel ask someone from the hotel if they can help find a good store. Some one mention Akbarally's department store they too have those.
