Rush hour by train starts at 7 am-12 6pm-10 pm .
It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare dream of meeting your heart's longing.

Road depends on where you going... during regular flow from North Bombay to South Bombay morning 9 to 11 & evening 6 to 9

There is not specific times for the city as a whole .The city is divided into parts and all the parts have their own specific rush hours but the general times given above are applicable to all the areas most of the times.

My only advice would be that (barring travel between 1-6am) you generously overestimate the time it will take to get to your destination. It can be really hard to figure out how long you'll be - traveling to the same place in Parel from my office in Nariman Point variously takes me 30 minutes to over an hour depending on the time. If you are in the suburbs, it's meant to be potentially even more ridiculous, as I understand it.

Traffic is never quiet in Mumbai - but I'd agree with the other posts:

Heading from North to South - roads are very busy from 09:30 to 11:30. Airport/Bandra/Sion to Nariman Point would take 2 hours at this time and one hour at all other times

Heading South to North - roads are very busy from 18:00 to 22:00

Same trip will take 2 hours.

East to West - there are no good links - so this involves a N to S zig zag like tacking a sailing boat - so hit North/South busy periods on each 'tack'. Octeroi (road tax for goods vehicles) can cause traffic hold-ups at midnight.

Train is quicker than car for N to S but you get trampled - but it's worth it to save an hour or more from the commute.

It would help if diplomacy indicated origin and destination.

Sometimes it can take you half an hour or more to get out of a suburb, as an example.

the traffic is always chaos, especially in the south. I once drove from my place in Andheri to Colaba, and it took 2 hours! and this was in the early afternoon!
