Even if you take your own car/scorpio/qualis .... it'll still take two & a half hours one way pell mell non stop. Its not the Pune expressway.

hmmm was just thinking of the possibility of hiring a qualis. going by bus wud be a bit less comfortable and time consuming but equally enjoyable. also going by bus gives u the trouble of coming down to Thane or Panvel for the Alibaug bus. not sure if there are any starting from the city. and if we are planning for just a one day getaway we will have to start off real early.
lets see how things work out. for staying there is an option there.. a hotel at the murud beach. have to look out about the availibility and rates there. will see if i get anything on that. not many IMers seen floating around for this but. btw just a read out for the same http://www.aroundpune.com/murud.htm and location map here.. http://www.aroundpune.com/images/punealibagroad.jpg cheers, Amyl |

The ferry to Janjira depends on the tide. The trip will take 80 mins to & fro plus say... a 90 min sojourn inside Janjira Fort. There is no lunch etc available at Janjira. So you will have to be back by 2:00 pm with rumbling stomachs. Murud is good at serving rice chapatis made of desi rice [yum] and of course the sea food.... By the time you will finish eating, everyone will want to take a siesta of sorts... the sea does that to you. By the time you bestir yourselves, it will be high tea with bhajias from 4:30 to 5:30. Time to say bye to the beach at 6 pm. Reach Dadar by 10 pm. Have fun!!! |

hi,
we should be tentatively closing in on tuesday for the no of people for the murud trip on 25th to enable the booking of the qualis and the hotel and yeah we will keep a cushion of two or three members max for last min confirmations..cos if we leave it open without planning we may end up like the fevicol ad with people hanging on from all sides on the vehicle. The other aspect is that as it takes nearly 6 to 7 hours travelling along with 90 mins ferry to janjira fort and some 40 mins inside Hence would youll like to do an one day trip (which would be hectic) or Do we do a one and a half day trip like leave after lunch on sunday then we could have a jam session of members who could play their own music or their mp3's on saturday night at the beach side with some camp fire sort or an lantern after doing the fort and beach in the day and then go for a small trek on sunday morning and enjoy the fresh air and have some tasty lunch and then come back here. In event few members would like to do one day trip and majority want to do it one and a half day we would then plan for alternative transportation for those few members back home, hence we will safe gaurd every ones interest that way Really appreciate your comments... as i prefer to have a consensus before i fix these schedule completely. please post your comments and to enable swift co ordination Anil |

After alot of brain storming the most swiiftest route seems to be the part sea route, then we go on to take the dukar rickshaw ( the large 9 seater one ).
We would go to the serene white sand beach of harihareshwar with stilll clear waters an hour and a half's drive from murud and then on the return enjoy divya ghar which has lovely orchards allover and no tar road and finally descend on murud janjira and leave on the 26th evening ferry from alibaug. We should be meeting at regal theater at 6 am on 25th feb. if youll have suggestions please let me know Anil |
