Panjabi suits
My wife wants to buy some Panjabi suits when we come to Mumbai next year and has been advised by a shop in London to head for "Linkin Road" nr the airport.
Any idea if this is good advice, whats the correct spelling of the area that we are looking for and how far is this from the Colaba area please ? Thanks

Linking Road is at Bandra (West) and is about an hour away from the Colaba area but I am sure you will also get some good selections near the Colaba, Fort and Crawford Market area you will be staying in too. There are a lot of good boutiques in many places all over the city. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Aadil.

Pujabi suits
These are readily available at many boutiques and malls. I suggest Pyramid at the Crossroads mall or any Shoppers Stop. The problem with Linking Rd is that you can't try anything on and you will be hounded by everyone selling stuff, plus I'm not so sure about the quality. But if you want cheap shoes, Linking Rd is the place to go. It's something to see and Bandra is fun. Pop into the Olive Restaurant on Pali Hill. I would hire a car for the time that you are here. Sometimes the traffic and the whole chaotic mess can be too much for you. No need to overload yourself. Plus the drivers are an indispensible source of information. Make sure you request someone with good english skills! I've seen all the places you mentioned. You might want to add the flower market in Dadar (go early - 9am is too late) and think about having lunch at the Khyber which is across from the old Army and Navy building in the Colaba vicinity. Great, reasonably priced Indian fare.

HI Nykita,

Ethnic wear...
Well, we stayed in Colaba our first trip here and we made it to Crossroads. It was something like a 200-250 Rupee taxi ride from the Gateway. Make sure you know exactly how much before you get in the taxi and make sure you are firm about going to Crossroads. They will try to take you all over Mumbai. I know the price was higher than for locals, but we didn't mind since we got a chance to try out our haggling skills
You can get nice westernized Indian wear in the major hotels. The Taj Palace and Towers has a very nice store, but keep in mind you'll pay more, sometimes LOTS more. I will do a little research and see what else I have forgotten way down there in Colaba. Once you live here, you rarely make it that far down south! When is your trip? Nykita |
