Mumbai vs. Rajasthani sites???

The madness of Mumbai coupled with my jet lag, the heat, and more has really not allowed me to enjoy my first 6 days in India.
The constant movement of people and traffic, the incessant noise, etc etc...I get dizzy whenever I leave the apartment where I'm staying.

What I'm wondering is, will I have a completely different experience in: Udaipur? Jaipur? Jaisalmer? Jodhpur?
Or is all of India this way?

Some people have said Rajasthan will be much more westerner-friendly and much less bustling.

comments?

Mumbai is really overcrowded, even by Indian standards....

Rajasthan will ceratinly be less bustling, but all these places are touristy....

Not being sarcastic but seriously speaking:
It is like asking" Will New York be a different kind of experience than Taos New Mexico.
Of course they will be different.

To answer your question:
Jaisalmer, smallest quietest, but a tourist magnet with associated touts/guides but an amazing place to be
Udaipur, larger cities, more mainstream than Jaisalmer, older parts are very quaint, forts, palaces
Jaipur, larger than the above, forts, palaces, but most developed of the lot.

If you are looking for a quite getaway from Mumbai (if it is your base), most of the beaches on the Konkan and some of the smaller towns would be nice.

Depends on what you are looking for.

Certain areas in both Jaisalmer and Jodhpur will almost feel like Mumbai, not because there's alot of people but because the people are more intrusive.

Not that this should scare you. Try not to think about it, close your eyes and jump in – Let it take you somewhere. You will definitely enjoy the india experience more if you just surrender and let go. Trust me

anyway I faced some of my fears today and just went walking out in Mumbai besides being so ungodly HOT and traffic being insane I'm kinda getting the hang of this!

Hi, well Mumbai and Rajasthan, both are different, but this time, specially in winters, Rajasthan is far far better to visit.
In winters its an idel place to visit, to enjoy places, food and offcourse people.

YE GODS

Get rid of the negativity and enjoy India.

The people are marvellous, kind, beware of the touts in Jaisalmer, and in the touristy area of India, of which Raj is foremost, total rip off merchants, keep your own counsel and you will soon enjoy what you came to seek.

I would suggest you do a recce trip to VT prior to your rail journey, just to experience what a train station is like........ nowhere else on earth that I have been compares.

Deep breaths from now on, onward and upward.

Suggest you look at anna paradox posts and journal, that will give you a very good insight into an others experiences.

Awesome.
Here are some of my mantra's of enjoying/not enjoying India. Not directed at you

1> India is a state of mind. If you decide you will be miserable, you will be miserable. It is a self fulfilling prophecy.

2> There is no point getting aggravated. The only person you will aggravate is yourself. Nobody else gives a damn

3> If things appear strange and whacky, let it be. There is always a reason behind it and someday you will tie it back somewhere and it will be clear

4> India is elastic. Just when things seem to be at breaking point, it magically snaps back together. There is just no point in spazzing out.

Since you are into photography you can do morning visits for photo shoots and avoid the heat: e.g. Dadar flower market, Khotachiwadi heritage neighborhood, the temples near Malabar hill....

I appreciate all the direct honest info many have provided but...

also no offence to anyone in particular but asking someone w/ HSP, high anxiety and OCD all at once NOT to be stressed, worried, concerned or try and plan is simply out of the question!

I plan and prepare as much as possible, I worry (will I get lost, robbed, threatened, raped?) ...and then I do things and deal with them my own way.

getting told how I should try and be someone or some way I am not makes me really not want to come here for accurate helpful info which I thought was the whole purpose of this site

People may not be familiar with your disorder(I am not).
Like in real life conversation you have to take in what is useful and disregard what you think is not helpful .
