Mumbai Duty Free (at arrivals) is pathetic.
I have a better selection of booze and fags at home!
You can buy some mediocre Scotch and a few gins and other spirits, but they have a choice of two Champagnes, both massively overpriced.
They also have a scam going for newbees.
All the prices are marked in US Dollars, but if you pay cash in UK Pounds Sterling they will pretend that the prices are in Sterling and pocket the difference!
Pay by credit card to be safe - at least you have a proper record of your purchase.
There is also a Duty Free Shop at departures. It is a lot bigger, with a wider range of goods, including tourist souvenirs of African Elephants!

Nonsense!Scotch Whisky is half the price in Mumbai Duty Free that is costs in Scotland.
Earlier in 2005 there was a special offer at Cochin Intl for 2 x 1 litre bottles of Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky for US $13.00. That is a quarter the price we pay in Scotland!
My parting memory of India was in Mumbai airport - thinking how appalling it was. Seriously boring. They didn't even have facilities to change money back!

well the few times i have even bothered looking there was never anything exciting. i bought some Johnny Walker once and it turned out to be much cheaper in new york.
Fags would def be cheaper here. but overall its a rip off in the sense that they never have anything there.

Bonjour people can someone clear up if inbound duty free is any good? There seem to be mixed feelings on the matter.
Basically should I buy some champagne at Heathrow duty free or wait until I arrive in mumbai?

Well I use Mumbai International 3-4 times a year but have not used the New T-3 at Delhi so cannot compare. My take on Mumbai Dutyfree is as that the outbound is more elaborate than the inbound one. the inbound one is for booze, tobacco and may be some chocolates, the brand choice on both inbound and outbound is limited but amongst the two the inbound one is really limited choice. Prices are for booze are one of the lowest in the world - Singapore, Dubai included. So if you want to buy the normal booze like Chivas or Johnnie Walker, Glenfiddich etc it is good, but if you are looking for say a Dalwhinnie etc you will be disappointed. As a rule I typically buy booze at the point of arrival to save myself the hassle of different security rules in different transit airports across the world.
