Mumbai: Custom Made Hat?

This may sound like a silly question, but I would like to get a few custom made hats while in Mumbai. I have a rather large head, and most of the one-size-fits-all here in the US don't work. Any experts know where I could get this done?

Unhappy How many days...

Depends on your stay in Mumbai. You may have to wait.

They may take upto a week to deliver.

I know of a hat wholesaler at Grant Road. Been planning to visit him for the last four years [same reasons as yours ]

Never got around to actually doing it...

Should be easily done, if you got enough time.

If I had their name & contact info, I would not have tarried so loooong to contact them. They happen to be on the way to work, and I just have to get down in between to contact them/meet them.

If I do it.... i'll post the details on this thread.

They are located at Balaram street near Grant Road railway station on the Western Railway.

You know, I'm not sure that it's very expensive to have a hat custom made in the US.

A friend of mine had one made for a Halloween costume recently, and my social circle are generally not all that extravagant. And it was a really specific and topical costume, too (Fleur Delacour from the Harry Potter series; even if my friend wanted to wear the hat outside Halloween, it will still look just like the hats the French girl wizards wear in the Harry Potter films).

Though I would guess that prices have to do with materials and how complex the workmanship will be. The Fleur Delacour hat was pretty simple.

I have no idea how this friend went about locating a custom milliner, though. Being in New York probably helps. This being the 21st century, it wouldn't surprise me if there were folks out there willing to take your submitted photographs, designs, and measurements via email, have a few chats on the phone, and fedex you your hat.

The ones I have found have wanted several hundred dollars US for a custom hat. I don't want one that bad.

I have seen only cloth and canvas hats here... not the type that cowboys wear. [the stiff hats]

If you were to ask them "how much for 4 hours delivery??" I am sure they will quote you some astronomical figure [say max 500 rupees or even 1000 rupees][and deliver after 36 hours] but you might get your work done and walk away with one or more hats home. Give them an advance of 100 rupees and maybe they will deliver fast.

Which type of hat do you want designed? Some link? Picture??

You are now making me curious... I better go see them and order my cloth cap....

Then I should give you an idea of how good [& timely] they are...

When do you intend coming down to Mumbai? For how long?
