Mumbai best Vada Pav (Mumbai's Hamburger) Places
Well after eating a crappy Mc chicken grill (no mayo, no sauce, nothing on the bun and a cold chicken cutlet).
I've decided I need a list of good quality vada pav outlets to eat good hot low budget food. A little about the vada pav Hot and Spicy Batata Vada served hot with pav, green chutney and sweet tamarind Vada Pav (also spelled Wada Pav) is an Indian vegetarian fast food commonly eaten in Maharashtra, India. It consists of a vada, served in a bun (pav). The vada is usually potato-based. Potatoes are mashed/diced and coated with an herb-seasoned batter, then deep-fried. The finished vada is then wrapped in bread and served with condiments such as chutney and red chili powder. Vada pav's form a breakfast for many of the local people of Maharashtra. It is a scrumptious snack sold nearly everywhere in Maharashtra. The snack is often served at breakfast and at teatime in many of the region's small eateries. On long distance trains, it is sometimes served as well. Like hot dogs and other roadside fast food. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vada_pav Andheri (west) 1) Outside the station near the foot over bridge going to Andheri east. Wait for the batata's to come directly from the frying pan to the counter and then order the steaming hot vada pav's!! Also the lassi is pretty good and the gulab jamun. Avoid the jumbo vada pav outlet further down on the right (the buns are cold and so is the vada) Vile Parle (west) 1) Outside the station about 4 shops from the station on the left a good hygienic Gujarati place. Also nice kachoris and dhoklas. 2) Opposite Mithibai college. They also make good cheese grilled sandwiches.

Yes, the places you mention seem to ring a bell!!! I have had it from many different places and most of them are pretty good too. I have 3 to 4 vada pavs almost half the time for my main meal when going to work in the afternoon or night shift!!! Great to carry along and have in the autorickshaw on the way from the Andheri station to the airport. I usually have them from the Jumbo King stall (hygienic variety) and sometimes from the not so hygienic roadside stall outside the Andheri (East) railway station. Depends on my mood and whether they are readily available or not!!! No time to waste waiting in queue to get them packed. Usually avoid the watery chutney during the monsoon season and stick to the dry red chilly and garlic chutney powder. And sometimes have a mango shake or a soda with lemon added to it to quench my thirst!!! Great combo!!!
Cheers, Aadil.

Vibhu: Hamburgers never have ham in them, only beef!!! HAHAHA!!! And the poor vegetarians who think that a cheeseburger means one with only cheese inside it are sadly mistaken too!!! It just has the normal beef burger with a slice of cheese inside it!!! It is only in India that you get a veg. burger with cheese inside it!!! HAHAHA!!!
Cheers, Aadil. |
