Mold - there's no nice way of saying it....

Morning all! We just returned home to Mumbai from a fanastic trip to Kashmir and Ladakh to discover a rather terrifying mold problem. Let's just say those little spores appear to have won the war . The main problem is a leak and a landlord who is lovely but not that proactive. Does anyone know of a plumber/builder who can fix a leak and damproof/mold kill? Does such a person exist? And do they arrive in a white van to the sound of a Bollywood cover of Ghostbusters?! Failing that, is there a laundromat anywhere in the city that has tumble dryers? It's the only way I can think of reclaiming our clothes!

Many thanks,

GeeGee

Is the leak coming from pressurised water, or from a non pressured source such as a waste outlet?

If it's not highly pressurised, you could search for an India equivalent of Fernox LS-X (silicone paste for applying to the outside of pipes) with which you can sort the problem out yourself.

Sodium hypochloride is effective, and can also reduce the allergic properties of mold.

Be careful with it though, as it can corrode metals and over use can result in the residue leaching chlorine gas.

In northern Australia we call it mildew. We use commercial (trademarked) cleaners which include chlorine bleach - Chlorox and others. Happens here in non a/c space in the wet season; every wet season. Guess it happens during the monsoon in India (and I would guess it happens every monsoon).
