Hi,

I'm going to Mumbai towards the end of november this year and would realy like to go and watch a kabaddi game. I gather that the sport is mainly played in Punjab, but is there anywhere in Mumbai where we can watch the sport?

Alternatively is it something that we could try playing ourselfs somewhere?

Any help would really be appreciated, Thanks.

Remember that there are two types of kabaddi is played in India. one is circle/long kabaddi which is popular in Punjab and Haryana. it is also known as punjab style kabaddi. another is short kabaddi which is commonly played all over India. you can see short kabaddi game in Mumbai at college grounds, Mumbai police ground or little efforts can make you able to see the match somewhere... But if you are into Long /Circle kabaddi then you have to go to either Punjab or Haryana

Great thanks Ashukkb,

Is there a website where you can check for events at e.g. Mubia Police Gymkhana Ground? I can't seem to see anywhere that lists Kabaddi matches.

Is it something that goes on all year round and we can just go on the day to get tickets or are we going to have to plan it in more detail?

THaks

Tickets to watch Kabaddi.
On a serious note - I wish the game had the facilities it deserves. The whole of India is too busy chasing Cricket that games like Kabadi are almost dying.

If you are coming in November then I think you can be lucky to watch any Kabaddi tournament. I saw one in 2007 in same time at Wadala Physical Education College ground.

And this is the time for Inter University games , if you are lucky you can find some match scheduled during this time.

Kabaddi is not commercialised in India and you will get free entry everywhere .

Little homework is required you can see lots friendly/ practice match is played at many grounds .

But I am afraid if you are looking for Punjab style/ Circle Kabaddi ...

There was a girls only kabaddi tournament near the place where I stay (Awesome I must say), if there happens to be anymore i'll definitely update here and Kabaddi is really dying in India maybe still people are passionate about it in Punjab but to most of the Indians cricket has managed to capture and rule the heart leaving out a little or no space for any other sports.

In the End its just memories what we end up with, and right now you have the choice to make it Good, Bad or a Thrill.

I was just watching on you tube and saw this beautiful link for Punjab style / circle kabaddi - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-40UW...eature=related

I this style only one player can catch the raider.

Another one is the short kabaddi and being played in Asian games. but for me is less interesting then the circle kabaddi. Link is - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13Htd...eature=related

Choose which one you want to see.
