Join the im mumbai trek on 1st April lead by Avid Trekker

Guys,

Mr. Avid Trekker is going to lead our trek and he has immense exp in leading treks to even himalayas, Mr. Praks is also joining him, who has dared to scale the everest base camp.

They took the effort of testing the heat and conditions last weekend by doing a trek on their own. They have ruled out HARISHCHANDRA GHAD due to the severe sun and hot temperature instead they have zeroed in on PETH KOTHALIGAD

I am enclosing the post by Mr. AVID TREKKER for youll.

"We had a very good drive around Vikramgad, Jawhar and ors.

The day temps were 35 degrees in the shade and 40 to 42 deg in the sun.

That excludes daytime climbs.... I don't want to treat a heatstroke case in the mountains.... not if I can help it.

I was with praks & a friend. praks is coming for the 1st April outing.

Harishchandra is cancelled.

Peth Kothaligad is on. A gentle climb and many first timers have done this as a first trek... and continued...

It will give the first timers a taste of trekking and overnight camping.

Saturday April 1st we have to reach Ambivali [Karjat] in the evening and start climbing the first portion at 16:00 [jeepable track] to reach the plateau [Peth] and the village by sunset at 18:30. After passing the village, we will be climbing in darkness... so all of you better carry torches.

We will reach the cave just below the actual top and heat whatever pre-cooked packed foods we have bought. We will carry vessel nos and sizes after the final number is counted here...

You will need plates mugs and spoons for eating this meal. Carry water bottles as well.

After this we can admire the stars. [3rd night after new moon]. Those who have binoculars may bring them.

Then its off to sleep in the cave or in the open... your choice ... it may be a little cold at night in the mountains, enough for getting into a cotton cover sheet. [carry mat and cover sheet reqd for sleeping]

Morning we visit the actual top of the mountain via the rock cut funnel.

Morning tea and breakfast... either precooked b/f or freshly cooked b/f.

We start climbing down at sometime between 10 and 10:30. It will be very hot.. but we will be climbing down so it will be just do-able. Reach bottom of the hill [Ambivali] at say 14:30 and zoom off towards Mumbai.

Those who are dying to have beer etc, can have it now.... with a late lunch or high tea. On the trek no one drinks any alcohol.

We will reach Mumbai by 12:00 on Sunday.

Food planning to be done after final number gets confirmed.

praks has said he will bring his seven seater. We are already three. Four spaces remain. If more than four IMers confirm, we will require another car. If anyone has a car or jeep, it will be useful... the fuel cost will be shared equally by the occupants.

We will start from Mumbai at around 12:00 on Saturday 1st april and return by 20:00 on Sunday 2nd April.

Any person who can walk seven km can do this trek...

OK, so who's coming?"

Things to bring:

1. Rucksack
2. Carry mat
3. Sleeping bag or equivalent [good chaddar]
4. jacket for moderate chill [optional for those who feel cold at A/c termps]
5. goggles [hot sun]
6. hat with wide cover [very hot sun]
7. good walking shoes
8. thick sox with one spare pair
9. water bottle 2 litres minimum [or more if you can carry it]
10. some fruits and [sugar candy]sweets for parched throat
11. personal medicines
12. Spare pair of clothes including underwear
13. Towel &/or napkin
14. swimming trunks or equivalent
15. soap for bathing
16. soap for utensil washing
17. mug for chai
18. plate for food.
19. TORCHES

Thumbs up Add torch

Anil,

please add torch to the list with bold lettering. [night climbing 2nd half]

Somewhere I've made a typing error here...

Quote:
We will reach Mumbai by 12:00 on Sunday.
Please correct that to ""We will reach Mumbai by 20:00 on Sunday.""

Its hot.... but then it won't be so bad if you wear a thin towel and cap on your head and keep drinking water every 30 mins or so... timely hydration is the key to Himalayan and sahyadri trekkings

Thumbs up 1st April

It just happens to be the first available Saturday after 25th March [Anil's originally proposed date]

I don't fool anyone, April 1st or not.

I don't think Anil is fooling, too.
