Hi Everyone,

My Intl flight arrives at 8.45 pm and i have to catch the train from Kalyan at 1.10 am.

How much time does it take from the intl airport to kalyan at night 10 pm. How much should i expect to pay for the taxi.

Thank You.

Getting a train from one of these places like Kalyan, Vasai Road and Panvel are a big problem since they are all outside Mumbai city limits and are not easily connected by taxi. These three places always show up as Mumbai city stations for the purpose of booking railway tickets but to use them when you arrive at the airport is next to impossible. I would strongly suggest you book a train that leaves from either CST, Dadar or LTT for your onward journey. First of all the time you have between the plane and the train is too short for such a journey even if the taxi were to get you there. By the time your flight lands in Mumbai it will be past 9pm and then immigration, baggage retrieval and customs will take another hour, so by the time you are out of the airport, it will be at least 10:30pm. You may have to book a private taxi from a car hiring firm which will charge quite a lot for the two hour journey to Kalyan and since it is peak hour traffic it will take pretty long to get there. You will have just about 30 minutes if you are lucky to get the train. If it is a private taxi it could cost you at least Rs1000 to Rs1500 since it is going out of the city limits, there are toll charges and return charges that will increase (double) the cost of your travel!!!

You could travel faster if you were used to the local trains in Mumbai but then I would not advise you to do that when you have luggage and have no clue about travelling on the Mumbai local trains!!!

Hi Aadil,

Thanks for the reply.
My problem is that i need to go to Belgaum from Mumbai. Earlier there was a flight from Mumbai to Belgaum but has now been discontinued. So when i arrive at Mumbai at night 8.45pm, the only option i have is to take next morning 5.30am flight to Goa and go by taxi to Belgaum. So i am thinking of taking this train to reach belgaum which is the last train at night towards belgaum. I thought that at night 10pm-10.30pm there wouldn't be much traffic so i thought it might take 1 to 1.5 hrs to reach Kalyan, but you seem to suggest that it will be peak hour traffic at that time.
Money wise i am ok with paying Rs500-800 for taxi which is better than paying for flight+taxi(Goa to Belgaum). So iam thinking of taking a chance, What say?
Also will the kalyan station at that time(night 1 am)be deserted or will there be activity at the station.

Kalyan station is not likely to be deserted as such but it will surely be much less than the normal crowd. Hope you don't have too much luggage with you as there are no escalators or elevators at the station to access the bridges to get to your platform!!!

Cheers,
Aadil.
