I Miss Bombay
It's been since February since I went to Bombay, and I miss it like none of you guys would believe! I miss the lights, I miss the restaurants, I miss the tropical weather, I miss the pubs where they'd serve you complimentary peanuts and corn chips, I even miss the little poor girl I'd give 10 Rs. everyday on the corner of Marine Drive and Veer Nariman Road. Almost everyday I'd tell my friends how great this city is, and that I should take them there one day and have some of the best times of our lives. I know I talk about Bombay too much to them, and sometimes it even annoys them. This city left a bug in me, the good type, and the only cure is to visit her. But that'll have to wait.
I've been searching for websites, photos on Google and PBase, Best of Bombay, but nothing can satisfy me. I need something to really take me back to Bombay, especially around Colaba and Churchgate. Does anyone on this forum have, or know of a good website with good (and many) photos of Bombay, or know any good websites about the Bombay nightlife, with club and pub reviews? I'm dying here, someone help me out! ![]()

NSW,
try the skyscrapercity web site. That site is all about buildings, infrastructure etc, however, you may find some photos that bring back good memories from your Mumbai visit. |

Trust me .... if you'd been here during the monsoon - you wouldn't miss it at all!
But .... this blog site and the associated Flikr album link may give you the fix you need ..... he's a fellow Bombayphile: http://www.trivialmatters.blogspot.co m Go to the photo pages around the low hundreds for Mumbai pics. |

The skyscraper city website is awesome. So many fond memories. I don't ever plan to visit India during monsoon. I was in Varanasi back in 1993 at the beginning of November, and it was very wet, and I didn't like it. So as you all can tell, I hate the rain. |

Varanasi is pretty dry compared to Mumbai so don't even think of coming here in the monsoons if you don't like the rains!!! Hope you can visit after the monsoons get over in September/October.
Cheers, Aadil.

People who know Bombay say the movie Metro, or Life . . in a Metro really shows you the place. I don't know if it's on dvd yet, I think it is.

Just a comment about DVD, VCD.....
I wont be buying a VCD anymore. Its not that much cheaper and you loose the other benefits that DVDs give - different languages, different regions, subtitles..and much better picture quality.... And, yes "Metro.." is available on DVD...Rs 299 I think. ....in Mumbai, of course... |

this very morning (today is Monday so was in that typical mood while traveling to office) I missed Mumbai locals while traveling in these chic AC trains here. Damn! It's such a silent and such an un-happening place as against those all-boisterous Mumbai locals.
And I had never heard a train horn here until last night. The driver honked for someone who had simply crossed the yellow line on the platform. He halted over 20 ft from the point he sighted the trespassing. A couple of officials came up to see if everything is ok!!! And look at this incident in Mumbai........what contrast! But I wud still love to travel in the heated, sweaty, smelly, squeezy Mumbai locals than these all comfortable but boring trains. The first image is while the train was passing the platform. While the second one is when it has passed, leaving the trespasser untouched. Is it a miracle or just a way Mumbai life is! ![]() Mumbai Meri Jaan! We share a common feeling for Mumbai, NSW.

Seriously? IMHO, as an adventure it would be okay but for everyday commute give me comfortable but boring anytime.

I have somewhat of a confession. I've never caught a train in Bombay, or the state! I've been catching a taxi for all my travels. I'm too spoilt.

So we decided to take local..I guess were in Mulund and had to go to Kandivali. Having no Idea of how things worked I asked local people for help and they told me what to say at the ticket window...it was like Mulund to Kandivali via Dadar one way... I thought purchasing a first class ticket would be good option...and used to traveling in Delhi metro i was shocked to Death when once sided ticket for a person cost around Rs.110 for two of us it was Rs.220. I thought what a damn, for this money we could have easily used a taxi. And to my horror the first class was a standard coach simply marked first class so that fewer passengers board it..and thank god it was Sunday. You travel in Air conditioned, safe and comfortable Delhi metro..and you go from one end of the city to other and end up paying around Rs.20 only... so you can imagine how big a shock a Mumbai local was for me.. |

haa haa that is one typical experience of a new comer to Mumbai...specially new to locals. Even I tended to think of First Class to be a little less chaotic but heck that exhorbitant fare. It's (IIRC) 10 times the normal fare.

..aaaha! if only this would work out realistically! But then I will also see that I am out of Mumbai in some village in the Sahyadris in the Monsoon. Cannot face the city during the monsoon. ![]() |
