Hi,
you don,t need to tip the doorman or the reception unless they go out of their way and do something special for you it is not expected. But the bellboys and room service boys get tipped and also a little something for the maids.A smile and a thank you will work wonders too.

Hotels near Mumbai Airport
Please recommend a clean and safe budget hotel close to the Mumbai domestic airport for a short overnight stay. Preferably somewhere that provides shuttle service to/from airport. Budget is ~$50 or less.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Welcome newbie! We usually stay att "Shangri-la". It´s a cheap hotel in Vile Parle, It´s extremely close to one of the airport, not 100% sure which one though, but anyway, it shouldn´t be too long to any one of them.
The hotel only costs about Rs 500 / night, it doesn´t provide a shuttle, but it´s easy to find a riksha or taxi that will take you. The standard is very simple, but the staff is nice, it´s safe (I stayed there with kids at least 4 times), it´s close to the airport, it´s in a nice middle class area with lots of food and stores, and - most of all - it´s dirt cheap with Bombay measurements!
You can find contact information for the hotel in Lonely planet, if you don´t find it, you can pm me, and I´ll look it up!
Good luck!

hotel samrat is where i am staying its not far from the airport and it does a pick up service for 300 rupees. you can book it on hostelworld.com. ive heard its good for the price but i dont know. sounds cheap at 12e for the two of us for one night. check it out. though you mightnt be as budget as me
I also stayed at the Shangri-La when I was last there 3 1/2 years ago. Paid 750 for room with t.v., air, and hot water. There's a great restaurant down the main street around the corner of the hotel called, Hotel Bharat restaurant and bar. The food was excellent. Eat in the downstairs airconditioned part if you go. Normal prices also.As you leave the hotel turn right to the main street, take a left on the main street away from the airport and walk maybe 3 blocks and the restaurant is on the left side on the corner. I also like the neighborhood around there. It's very bustling. The Hari Krisna Temple is a nice walk from there. Not a bad place to visit. Bought some good incense there.
i stayed in shangri-la as well, ye the people seem very friendly and the neighbourhood is very nice. Its the cheapest i could find too, but the room wasnt great, not that im one to complain i was quite happy with it. definitely recommended for a one night stay

There is the Highway Residency at about one km from the international as well as the domestic airport for about Rs900 non a/c to Rs1200 for an a/c room with attached bath, TV, phone, etc. They have a free pick up but not dropping facility from the airport so just take a taxi or rickshaw when going back!!! Heard about the Shangrila too, never checked it out though. Should be OK if the LP says so!!!

I stayed at the Shangri La at the beginning of December, after reading the recommendations on this post.I would only recommend it if you're on a low budget. The price (850 for a fairly grotty room and 650 for an even grottier one) is good for Mumbai and the location close to the Domestic airport but the rooms are pretty dirty and I definately wouldn't recommend it if it's your first night in India (as it was ours). It was good as a standard for all our other rooms though - we could always say `well at least it's not as bad as that one in MumbaiŽ!

Mumbai hotel in centre with airport pick up at 3:30am?
Hi everyone. I am arriving into Mumbai (first time!) at 2:45am on 27 Feb and have yet to book a hotel! I have looked over lots of your reviews on here and like the sound of the Residency Hotel but looks like no online availability - same for a couple of others. Just wondered if anyone could recommend somewhere nice, not super pricey but nice enough to be eased in with airport pick up if poss and in the centre rather than round the airport. Thank you!

Check "services" on their website, it says clearly "Airport and railway station transfers can be arranged for an additional charge."
No need for panicking, you will definitely find a place to stay. If the online reservation tool is not working, give them a quick ring, much easier to sort out your pick up service and to get your room booked.
