Hotel for two nights.

Hi folks,

Ive been twawling the internet now for two days solid looking to book a reasonable place to stay in Mumbai. We are looking for somewhere pretty tidy & clean and are not too bothered if it is out of the Fort/Coloba areas. The budget is around 30 quid per night? for two nights.

Ive looked at all the regular recommended hotels but just can't decide.

Can anyone recommend a recent stay in bombay?

Thanks a lot.

Jim

I have booked 2 nights at the Residency Hotel at the end of this month www.residencyhotel.com as It is well priced and I liked the guest comments and the fact that it's an ex firestation.
Hope this helps

Good place, good food

We stayed several times at Harbour View Hotel . Its located some 500 meter from The Gateway , opposite the Radio Club.
Very good rooftop restaurant.

I'm seriously thinking of landing and jumping on the first train south at this rate.

If the hotels arn't overpriced and squalid, they are complete hovels and could quite easiliy deliver you to your next destination with 'extras'.

I really am at a loss as what to do. We are on a budget and two nights in Mumbai could seriously dent it.

It's strange, we ahve stayed in some poor poor guest houses in India before but we are really concerned about what is waiting for us in Mumbai.....

Oh well, there is still a few weeks left to find that 'special' place.

Cheers

I usually recommend the Residency at Fort but if you don't want to spend too much and still want a nice clean place then try the Hotel New Bengal next to the Crawford Market opposite the JJ School of Art and very close to the CST train station. It also has two lovely restaurants in house so you can enjoy some good food too. The rates are about Rs650 for a standard double with attached bath. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Hey whinger, if you are no concerned about staying in City, I can suggest you a pretty good place...

Hotel Imperial Residency, Sher-e-Panjab, Mahakali Caves Road, Andheri (East). We paid Rs.1400 (US $ 35) for a double room. It was quite comfortable with AC and other standard facilities.

It is located in a quite neighborhood, food was very good and staff helpful.

It took us around 30 minutes in an Auto-rickshaw from the airport at 8 AM and we paid around Rs.80 for the ride.

However this was back in Feb, 2006. On other visit after that I stayed in a hotel in Mulund, paid Rs.950 for a double room (AC), however I don't even remember the name of the hotel, as it was not good compared to the one I mentioned earlier.

I would have a card of them, however since is quite old I would have to search for it, if you are interested, just send me a PM and I will look for it in morning and send you the contact details.

Both these locations Mahakali Road and Mulund are usually out of bounds for most tourists who would want to be near the attractions, shopping, etc. and the rates are not so cheap anyway.

If you paid Rs80 for something that should have cost you around Rs40 then you have been ripped off!!!

Aadil.

I totally agree with you, that is the reason I never mention this hotel in other threads...infact my family would be there on 28th and I won't like them to stay there...

However I did mentioned that if distance was not a constraint for the OP..

it was our first time in Mumbai and had no clue about it...it might be possible that I do not exactly remember the amount...but I guess we paid by Chart

and BTW, what are the rates of Residency, I might book that for my family.

ermm......Thanks..

Thinking about heading straight down to Pune now..

Should pay around rs 1000 for the car and save around rs 2000 per night for a reasonable place to stay.

I guess he means hiring a Mumbai to Pune taxi shared by four people for Rs250 each!!!

The Residency at Fort charges around Rs1750 for an airconditioned double room with attached bath. No breakfast included in the price but available for a small charge separately in the hotel restaurant below or in your room.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Thanks,

Unfortunately the residency is fully booked on the dates I'm looking for,..

That Hotel was by far my first choice.

Does anybody know anything about The New Bengal?

Ive had an email back from them which sounds pretty good. The website looks informative but I cannot find any reviews...

Perhaps I should just get on with it and take a wild stab in the dark..??

Cheers
