help on accommodation.

hi there

i will be arriving in mumbai on the 21st of oct, and would like to secure at least the first nights accommodation prior to leaving Australia, i will be staying in budget hotels and would like to stay in Colaba, i notice though that alot of theses places do not have online booking/emaill address.

was just wondering what options i might have in this case and also my chances of just just "rocking" up on the day and trying my luck, taking into consideration the date.

any help would be appreciated .

Hi,

I'm not surprised if with the cheaper places you can't book online. Getting a room in Mumbai can be tricky esp. if you show up later in the day; you'll find a room alright but maybe not what you were looking for at first. Try this site's hotel listings and see if you can make a telephone booking with one of those places; how sure such a booking is always remains to be seen. I know friends of mine booked a room that way with the Hotel Prosser's some years ago.

Don't worry about booking in advance. There's a 24 hour hotel booking counter on your right, just before you exit the arrivals hall in the airport. They'll make sure you don't walk past without noticing them, too. Sure, you'll get charged a little extra, but it's a small expense compared to what you've just spent to get there on the flight. Plan on staying two nights in your first place, and THEN move. Check out time is often noon in Bombay, so if you're arriving in the middle of the night like most everyone else you'll still be too disoriented to cope with changing rooms 8 hours after you check in. Pay for the extra day, you won't regret it. Copy down some phone numbers from the hotels section and do some calling once you're in the city, in case you think you might want to change locations after the second deay.
