Gyms in South Mumbai
After the Breach Candy Club post, I am interested in other gym options that may exist in South Mumbai (or Bandra/Juhu potentially), be it a chain or standalone gym. This would be mainly for strength tools and weights, with a bit of cardio (bike). So no need for lessons nor pool nor sauna. Any address welcome!

Just my 2 cents if you can't find a decent local gym...or need to put a quick workout in.
When I was in Madurai for 3 weeks, I used a rusty Parallel bar and Chin-up bar setup in the grounds of a local school. I also jogged in a race course there (yeah, they let people on those tracks).

check talwalkars.
warden road and charni road branches are your best bet. this chain is pretty decent..they are air-conditioned, fully equipped, and have a masseuse [too lazy for the spellchecker ] too.. mahim and wadala are in central bombay while the other branches are in the westen and eastern suburbs. |

Indeed, this chain looks really nice, thanks for the hint! By the way, so as to locate that, does anyone know a good urban mapping system for Indian cities, such as mappy.com in Europe or mapquest.com in the US (even though this one looks really bad)? Google Maps does not seems to know much about India currently...

the golds in Bandra is supposed to be one of the best.
just heard Moksh has a deal till the end of the month for 19000 a year. also Qi is a gym at Eros Cinema, Churchgate. |

Gyms
Tom,
Moksh is very convenient if you live in the Breach Candy/Kemps Corner area. It's a bit cramped, but it has the basics. Seems like more people go to pose than to seriously work out. Golds on Nepean Sea is expensive! Having had my $40/mo membership in Virginia at what was a pretty basic/functional Golds, I just can't get used to the idea of Golds as a luxury brand. Qi in the Eros building near Churchgate looks great. If you're looking for something interchangeable with an American/European chain, it's the closest I've seen, and it's much more of a workout zone and less of a social event than Moksh (and less hoity-toity than Golds). That said, I ended up buying a stationary bike at Planet Fitness in Bandra (they delivered) and some freeweights. Much, much less expensive than membership, and you can't beat the commute. -G. |
