Girls Student Hostel/Housing - Options, Ideas

hi

a friends sister is planning on moving to Bombay to pursue her post XIIth grade education.

he asked me what to do about her housing and i am at a loss other than renting an apartment or getting a PG option.

i think it would be better if she is around other students, atleast for the first year.

what kind of hostels do we have in the city?

advice? ideas?

The Womens Students Hostel on Marine Drive (now called some long winded thing, but next to the aquarium) is another option.

Difficult to get, though. Pull some strings.

There aren't many cheap hostels except some lousy ones which you may not want to stay at so it is better to get a PG accomodation with some other girls instead of getting a room in a hostel. It sure will be more expensive but the place would be better than the hostel at least. The YWCA Hostel at Andheri is good and there is another private hostel at Worli Naka next to the Charity Commissioner's Office. These are generally for working women and they charge some fixed percentage from what you earn. Don't know if they accept students too.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Gamdevi

There are two women's hostels on Kashibai Navarange Marg (lane adjacent to Gamdevi Police stn). The locality is very posh and upmarket. Turn right after you come to the Police stn from Nana chowk.

but i am not sure she would want to be by herself.

She can always share it with someone and stay with a couple of students from the same class or college. Makes it cheaper and lots more liveable too. There is one for girls only (don't know the name of the hostel) in the lane next to S. K. Patil Udyan inbetween Marine Lines and Charni Road Stations. It is mainly for college students and they also have curfew timings.

Cheers,
Aadil.
