Getting to IIT Powai
Getting to IIT Powai
I am going to take a train to the nearest station. I am told that it is Kanjurmarg or Vikhroli. Which would be the more convenient station to get to IIT? How do I get to IIT from the station? How long will it take? Thanks.

IF you are reaching Mumbai, how are you reaching and where?
Kanjurmarg is the closest station to Powai indeed. You will easily get a rickshaw (auto) from the station... I guess it might take about 15 mins (depending on the traffic) or approx Rs. 25 (at most!)
If you intend to come by bus or by cab, form the Western Express Highway, you need to take the JVLR flyover (Jogeshwari - Vikhroli Link Rd) from Jogeshwari which will take you straight to IIT. From the Eastern Express Highway you need to turn in towards Gandhinagar from Ghatkopar.

btw... Vikhroli is a tad more convenient if you are coming down from Thane. Kanjurmarg is the station of choice going northwards from Dadar.
In terms of distance from IIT, Vikhroli is further away BUT if its raining heavily, you will find it easier to get a rickshaw from Vikhroli to IIT as compared to trying to find one at kanjurmarg

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you
Everything is perfectly explained. I am going to take a Central Line train from CSTM.

In that case get down at Vikhroli. Ensure that you take a slow train, since fast trains do not halt at Vikhroli.

Why do you say to get down at Vikhroli, Aroosh? If it is not raining, could I not get down at Kanjurmarg? The train timetable shows that only the slow trains stop at both Kanjurmarg and Vikhroli.
Where do you want to go in IITP ? You could take a bus, that used to go right inside the campus and head back to Vikhroli.
Quote:
The train from CST stops at platform one at Vikhroli and you don't need to go up and down a bridge (like you have to with the island platform at Kanjurmarg) to exit. The auto stand is right outside. At Kanjurmarg the autos are a bit of a walk away, in addition to the bridge. The advantage of Kanjurmarg is, if you don't get an auto, there are plenty of buses going past IIT that you can take.
Thanks everyone. So I shall get down at Vikhroli then.I have to find where I want to go in IIT once I get there, so I think I will take an auto
