2. Soul Fry, Bandra....havent been there yet but acc. to ppl who have been to both the places....Goa portugese is a much better place.

oh yes now i remember...
dont know wether u will find exactly goan type seafood but Mahesh Lunch House, in Fort (behind fountain or What is now called Hutatma Chowk) & Trishna at Kala Godha , are famous for their sea food and non-veg dishes, their style is supposed to be goan cum Konkani.
another place is Fountain Inn , again in Fort area, here few goan dishes like vindaloo and fish fry are served.
all these three places are in the area that ur asking for

in fact i got out of there and had an hour to kill, a friend of mine was in a similar position so i went from the Indigo Deli straight to Palms. Didnt eat anything but he got some soup and my lady got a Watermelon juice (which i was told was very good) the soup was way OFF.

Was at my regular monthly joint Cafe Royal last night with my wife... nice Non-Veg Platter (mix of Chicken, Fish & Prawns) with always awesome DRAFT beer followed by a chicken sashlik...a filling meal always
on monday eve went to Taj Palace, Apollo Bunder's Sea View lounge...
the piano player was amazing and the service was faulty, the attendant kep on fumbling with things ....( not a big issue)
well, i wa their with my uncle and his client...we ordered Vegatable clear soup with Sun dried tomatoes, and Parmesan salad.
Now the incident- guess what my uncle's client ordered ...he ordered a - Dahi Batata Puri ( the humble chaat item, best served on streets and road side shops) ....my heart cried out loud and i wanted to pounce that idiot till he turned into a bloody puddle...above all this he admitted that he can have this stuff on the streets that will be cheaper and tastier but being priced at Rs. 200 per serving he wanted to see what was so special about the one served here...
Then an Indian expatriat from somewhere in Africa came to the lounge in vest kind sleeveless shirt and in pajamas...he was half drunk and was evry nostalgic....he seemed to be remembering the jazz and jitterberg era....he constantly told how the Taj was when he visited here last in 1980's and how it was while in 50's and 60's and 70's....he went to on to chide the piano player for not having that jing that players of jazz era had...
Wow....Taj gave me an experience for what it was all about...interesting company we were in...
Then while we were waiting in the lobby for our car...an american couple with their teenager daughter walked in...now this seemed to be a perfect scene from some american TV daily show..parents behaviour was embarresing the kid and she walked few paces away from them...they were loud she was quiet and she didnt wanted to be taken picture of with every part of Hotel Taj.
That night my uncle wanted to have a traditional gujarati thali, so after considering the time we eneded up in Samrat, Churchgate, now i always has been partial to Rajdhani and Panchvat Gaurav in matter of Thali but After i had it here, i must say it deserves to be rated along them among the best.
Thali as usual starts with three different kind of chutneys and pickles and condiments and Farsaans ( snacks) which on that day were khandvi and Vattana pattice ( green pea filled small samosa). Along came the desserts ( which are seved in the starting , a gujarati way rather than at end of the meal ), choice was any 2 of the following:
- chena malai ( bengali sweet of cottage cheese and cream)
- Aamras ( mango puree)
- Kesar Shrikhand ( saffron shrikhand)
- Gulab Jamun
followed by pudina chaas ( mint flavoured buttermilk), then came -
- aloo ka saag ( patatto curry)
- patta gobhi bhaji ( cabbage saute)
- palak soya badi ( Spinach with soya nuggets)
- lubhiya fali saag ( lots of beans )
- gujarati mithi daal ( spicey daal slightly sweetened with jaggery )
- gujarati kadhi
- tadka daal
- masala khichiya ( roasted gujarati papad)
- plain rice
- veg- pulao
- Khichdi
- phulka ( gas fire roasted wheat roti)
- puri
- salad
- fried pickle fali ( small dried beans roasted)
- garlic and red chilli chutney
all unlimited and served with utmost courtesy, we were filled upto the brim ...i even forgot the sacrilege commited by that man at Taj..such is the power of FOOD.
