From dadar to vasai road thane

Hi all, I have to catch a train at 7:30 PM at Vasai Road Rly Station, Thane. I will be travelling from Dadar Rly Station.
This is my first time in Mumbai. Pls let me know the shortest time taking route and mode. Needless to say that 7:30 PM would be peak time for traffic. I dont mind if it is little heavy on pocket.

Shortest time taking route is going by local train ...you need to catch any Virar bound local ... it takes around 1 hour to reach Vasai by fast local. As you traveling in rush hour you should consider traveling by First class of local train.

also consider how much luggage you will be carrying. even 1st class in rush hour with luggage when you are pressed for time is not easy.

Vasai is REALLY far by road. i go there often enough from South Bombay and when i drive it takes about 2 to 2 and half hours by road. if you get stuck somewhere in a jam its taken upwards of 3 at times. the train from Dadar would possibly take you an hour tops.

Another alternative (and i know this might sound hairbrained) is to take the train from Churchgate where it starts, there is little rush and you can get a seat and stay put (but add another 20 mins to the journey)

No ! It's a very Good Suggestion !

I have travelled in these trains....and it will be next to impossible to board a local train at Dadar with luggage....Not only Boarding...It will be a pain to move even on the platform with luggage.

I will suggest u one thing.Leave one hour early.Take a local from dadar to churchgate and then from churchgate u can easily board a train to virar..Then getting down at vasai will not be much problem since their will be lot crowd waiting to get down at vasai..BTW which train do u have to catch from vasai.

In that case why not board in local train coming from Virar & going to Churchgate @ Dadar station? From Churchgate this train will reverse its direction ... & will again leave for Virar in 15 - 20 minutes(though you need confirm about this from some seasoned travelers) ... so no need change train @ Churchgate !

I suggest you backtrack from Dadar to Churchgate as others have wisely proposed, but much earlier in the day between 11am and 3pm to avoid the rush. From Churchgate travel by first class to Vasai - take the Virar bound train. Good luck!

Just one more point to what IMers have suggested above. Kindly check with seasoned travellers whether that train would leave Churchgate station as Virar Local. If it leaves as Borivali or Andheri local, you had it...

Not necessary that it will return as a Virar fast local so don't think of doing that. I would advise you to take a Virar Fast local from Dadar which leaves from Dadar and not the one coming from Churchgate. These are few in between but you don't need to go to Churchgate and waste about an hour doing so. These trains generally come on platform #5 of the Western Railway at Dadar and leave approximately every hour from Dadar. If you need to catch the train from Vasai Road at 7:30pm you will need to be there at least half an hour before the departure time. It will take about one hour to reach Vasai Road from Dadar station and you will need to catch the train leaving about 5pm or before that. This is peak hour traffic in the trains so please be careful with your baggage and climb in slowly as there is generally a mad rush to get in even though there is a lot of space to sit inside. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.
