First time to Mumbai
Hi India Fans
,it's my first time to India and I will be not staying a long time, around 3 weeks. Just planning to chill out in Mumbai. I look for a cheap, clean and safe place in a relative good area. I am Jewish, could that be of any problem in India? What do I have to expect of Mumbai, I am in my early twenties, male would like to get a idea/feeling of what the city is like. Anything I need to know before I travel? Thanks |

Being Jewish don't matter at all. Mumbai is the business capital and entertainment center a.k.a Bollywood. Noisy and Hot humid most of the time except Dec-Jan.

Why are you spending three weeks in Mumbai? Don't get me wrong, I love the place - it is a great city, but a few days there would be nice and then head out into India. Just grab a train ticket and go.
All the best. |

I so agree with the above observations. For your first time in India 3 weeks in Mumbai would be a waste, as much as I love the city. Spend a few days there then hop on some trains, you could stay chilled and still see some of the beautiful South. How about Hampi, Gokarna or Kochi (lots of Jewish culture which my Jewish husband enjoyed) & the Backwaters. Explore and enjoy!

Yep - just hop on a train. Delhi is a night ride away as is Jodhpur. Goa is a few hours down the track - it is all there just waiting to be experienced. When you get to Mumbai buy a copy of the train timetable and head on out there, you'll love it and the trains are an experience in themselves.

Hey if you are in Mumbai you can try staying near Colaba or Nariman point where you would find other Jews as well.If you want to see an old and only synagogue you could visit Cochin or Fort Kochi where there is a lot of history behind it.
Have fun. |

you are all amazing help---please give me some more information
on Mumbai. What hostel to stay in (Cheap, Clean and ''normal area'')? How to get there from the Airport, without getting ripped off by ''tourist hunters''? Thanks |

A good guidebook would certainly answer some of your basic fundamental questions. |
