few nights in mumbai -questions

Hi there,

Myself and my friends will be flying into Mumbai in January and staying for a few nights before moving on.

Does anyone have any recommendations for accomodation? Looking for something clean, with air con and a private bathroom. Also does anyone have any tips on whereabouts to stay in Mumabi?

What recommendations do you all have for what to do during 2-3 days in Mumbai?

Also any idea which airline we should use to get to Goa from Mumbai?

Many thanks

I would recommend Residency Hotel in the Fort area. Very clean and inexpensive, also good location.

There's loads to see and do in Mumbai. I had several guide books for the main sights and a Time Out guide to Mumbai and Goa for bars and restaurants in the evening. Plenty available on Amazon or try your local library.

Alternatively, use the search facility on this site and you will get many recommendations.

Regarding airline to Goa, I think they are all much of a muchness. Kingfisher are good but for a 50 minute flight does it matter as long as you arrive in one piece? Have a look at www.cleartrip.com it shows all the airlines, flight times and prices.

Most people prefer Coloba. At least first time mumbaikers.

I have stayed two times at Bentley's hotel and have been happy both times

http://www.bentleyshotel.com/

They have several buildings placed in Coloba, make sure to ask for a room on Oliver street, as the ones on coloba causeway aren't as good, cause of the noise.

Try out Hotel Lawrence in the Fort area. Its small but clean and Economical. The normal tariffs are around Rs 600/-.Its not a very fancy hotel but its livable if you are ok.
In case you wish to travel to Goa the most preferred way is to take an overnight train to Goa which is quite comfortable but needs to be booked in advance. There are a lot of airlines however-Kingfisher,Jet,Spicejet,Indigo and Goair of which the last two are the most economical(Close to Rs 2000/ ticket). You also have regular buses that take you to Goa.
Have fun

Tickets are often difficult to get last minute..that's the only thing..otherwise, of cos, traveling by train is better.

The Residency is my choice in Mumbai since Shelleys closed down a few years back. It's close to Colaba (a very short bus ride), close to Churchgate, and close to VT. You're looking at Rs 2000 or so for a room at The Residency though, so it's not as cheap an option as others have suggested.
