Excellent driver in Mumbai - recommendation

Hello,

Just arrived home to a very cold and grey London after a fantastic three weeks in India. Its a bit depressing to be back so I thought I would add to the hotel reviews and post here to relive it all a bit longer!

I wanted to recommend the driver we had in Mumbai to anyone that may be looking. Amin was a really safe driver, knew the city so well and explained loads about life in Mumbai. He was a street kid for much of his childhood and has an amazing life story. We were there for my birthday and we had dinner at his house where they gave me a cake/cards etc which was great!

So if you need a driver have a look at www.snehatravels.in or e-mail Amin at sneha_travels@yahoo.com

Thanks to everyone for all the info I took from here that helped make our adventure such a success!

I hope its OK to recommend someone like this?

Gee

Hi Vicky,

I've edited this message as Amin has e-mailed me his rates and I wanted the correct info to be up here. So its as follows - daily rate 1,600 rupees (8hours) in the city, out of the city 12 rupees per km, he does airport drop off and pick up and will do multiple day trips anywhere in India.

As I said before I can't recommend him highly enough, you get a safe driver, a lovely guy and a really unique insight into life in Mumbai/India.

I hope you all have a fantastic trip.

Gee

I took GeeMay's advice and had Amin twice pick me up/drop me off at BOM and for the few hrs I was in Mumbai tour me around.

I have to say that not only does Amin love the city but also seems to schedule an incredible tour to accomodate the amount of time you have in the city he loves.

He also has a very interesting personal story to tell of his upbringing on the streets of Mumbai.

Hi,

I am updating this thread having just returned from my latest trip to India.

Firstly thanks to everyone who has used Amin as their driver, your continued support has made a huge difference to him.

Also I wanted to let everyone know that he now has a new car that can accomodate up to 7/8 passengers so he can look after larger groups.

Once again we had a great time in Mumbai, Amin found new parts of the city to show us, took us to the orphange where he grew up and also included us at dinner etc with his friends.

Thanks
Gee

Driver in Mumbai

Thanks for the contact. I gather that a driver is also a guide in this city? We dont really have much time but want to do a bit of shopping for our small shop on a farm in South Africa. Would Amin be able to help with this?

There's nothing like a personal recommendation, and it is nice to credit given for a good job well done.

But just putting in a word for the many, many other drivers who will also give good service! I'm not trying to take business away fro this guy: just speaking up for the rest

It's also worth pointing out that most drivers will take the lead from you as to whether you want them to be chatty and communicative, or to just sit and drive --- when they are being taxi drivers to the locals they will be expected to keep themselves to themselves.

1600 a day is expensive, unless he has a larger/more luxurious car.

amin-driver in mumbai

we used amin as our driver and guide in mumbai.
It was our 5th time in mumbai and this tour was soooo different.
amin is a great person, knows good english, and you can trust him 100%.
In our tours in INDIA we met a lot of drivers, few of them like Amin.
he can take you when ever you want incl the best markets and shoping.

1600 a day is very expensive, but then again most drivers can't serve as your guide (although they will try).

Initially, I thought the same ...but I inquired in Goregaon about car rentals and a small Indica with driver comes to R1200 per day and so many km per day,

.....and 8hrs per day rental includes the driver,s time for pick up and drop off, .....could lope off 2 hrs from the eight, depending on where he's comimg from and where you are for pick up.

Just a comparison......

maybe mumbai rates are now higher. most other cities (have recently used in hyderabad and delhi) an a/c indica would be 750/800 a day for 80km and 8 hrs, with a max of 20 mins 'lopped off'.
