Coming to Mumbai next month !

Hi, I am coming to Mumbai next month. I have been all over India, many many places but yet I have not stayed in Mumbai yet ! I know, so I want to see Mumbai and was thinking Juhu area, but I want to keep the rs max at 2500. Is this possible and what places, either a hotel or service apartment will work for me in this location, any info I would greatly appreciate that. The main reason I hear it can be dangerous this is only reason I have not stay in Mumbai. Renee.

For how long are you planning to live in Mumbai? You are willing to spend on accommodation Rs. 2500 per month or per day? If its per day, then it translates to more than Rs. 60,000 per month. This will be more than enough to find yourself a nice serviced apartment in a good location.

I doubt if you will get any hotel at this rate. You might have to stay in suburbs like thane/mulund and travel from there (shouldn't be mush of a problem if you have some local guy with you)

Is there any reason why you want to stay in Juhu?

Colaba is better in my opinion, especially if it's you're first time to Mumbai and you're alone. Colaba is closer to all of the main sights, has reasonably priced accomodation, has a decent backpacker scene if you feel like sharing a beer with other travellers and close enough to get to Chowpatty for some Bhel Puri and an evening stroll!

Thane is about 25-35 km from Juhu (but Mumbai traffic may take 1 -2 hrs to cover this distance :-)).

There is this Hotel, close to Hare Rama Hare Krishna Temple in Juhu area, called Hotel Anand. They charge Rs 2000 - Rs 3000 /- per person. It is safe, clean and has an amazing South indian restaurant. They don't have a website, but perhaps you can give them a call and book a room. Numbers are +91 22 2620 2234, +91 22 2620 3372.

You can also check out YMCA Hotel in Colaba right next to causeway. They will charge you Rs. 2100 and startegically located next to causeway. However you have to make prior booking to get a room. Happy stay

As this happens to be your first trip to Mumbai, I would stick to South Mumbai (Colaba Area) to stay. I would not recommend Juhu (besides being expensive), you are caught up in the traffic snarls, noise and commute is not practical.
YWCA in Colaba is an option (check out their website)..Colaba as a location offers plenty of tourist sights/reasonable eat outs.
There are other budget inns mentioned in previous threads..

Mumbai is much safer compared to other major cities...

Hmm...Colaba sounds logical. Apart from city life, don't forget to visit ancient Elephanta caves :-) !

ReneeLynn,
I'd recommend Colaba too. We've stayed there a few times (heading back in three months)and yes, it has a buzz about it and is handy to sights, restaurants etc. Safe for a solo female too.
As Ashok says, check out the YWCA website - it is only a few minutes walk away from the Regal cinema and it has a good reputation. Is also good for CST if you intend moving on by train.
