Colaba Market Shrine ID, please?
Colaba Market Shrine ID, please?
Hello all. I am trying to do a bit of writing and this info is somewhat crucial to my project. As one enters the Colaba Market in Mumbai from the main road, there is/was a shrine that is somewhat central or at least central at the beginning of the market. If I recall correctly it is before the majority of the vendors beyond. It is not a temple, I don't think, but stands freely at the middle of a pedestrian intersection. And, looking again at this photo, it looks like it may have been a temporary shrine in place for a holy day or festival like Diwali.
Here is a photo that I took while in Mubai from 2010 (when I originally posted, I didn't have access to my massive pile of .jpegs). The god is blue, so I'm assuming this is Shiva in some form, but I'm not sure which form this would be or whether it couldn't be another of his consorts. The photo was taken in Colaba Market during Diwali 2010, if that offers any clarification.
Would love any specific information anyone might have about this.
Many thanks!

Reason: Original Picture of Shrine Found
I have answered my own question. It is Kali. I understand that Kali Puja is celebrated primarily in West Bengal during Diwali and that for much of the rest of of India (including Maharashtra) it is focused on the Druga Puja. Is Colaba a Bengali area of Mumbai? Anyway, if anyone has any insight as to any deeper reason for this particular Devi avatar being celebrated in this specific part of Mumbai, feel free to share.
Thanks.
Thanks.

That looks like a statue of Durga in the Kali avataar.
Colaba can't be called a Bengali area. The shrine you are looking at is temporary (10 days in a year) and would have been installed for the Durga Puja celebrations that usually happen in October. More details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durga_Puja

kano ? It looks like Kali.
It is perfectly logical to have Kali Pujo during Diwali and Durga Pujo around Dussera time. Never saw a dark Durga even in Paramaribo, which as far away from bengal as it gets, where there is a diaspora that celebrates all indian festivals with fusion
