Cheap but good accommodation in Mumbai
Hi everyone!
Might go to Mumbai next month for at least month to volunteer and would need somewhere to stay. Does anyone have any good suggestion on good accommodation, centrally located? Wunala |

its decent, nice kitchen area, not so nice food, but gennerally a over all healthy vibe there.
This might be a pic of it... |

Cheap and good? Choose one or the other. Check the hotels section of this website for some specific suggestions. You can also investigate the available paying guest listings when you get there. The tourism office in Churchgate (directly north of the WR headquarters bldg, up the stairs) has the list. Most places will run around Rs15,000-20,000 per month but there is no referral fee. If you get a PG accommodation through an agent you may find a cheaper place but you'll pay at least one month's rent for the convenience. I should do a write up about my experience renting two years ago (has it really been that long since I did that?!). Good luck.

I first stayed in the Red Shield army hostel in 1990 and was in the dormitory. They did not have lockers at that time. When I went back there in 2003 I stayed in a private room for 570 rps. The dorm was I think 170 rps. with a free simple breakfast. As the walls in my toilet in my private room did not go up to the ceiling I moved to the Carlton hotel around the block. The Carlton cost me 500 rps. for a nice room with cable t,v, and frig. and nice view of the Taj hotel across the street. There were a few travelers at the Carlton, but you are sure to meet many more at the Red Shield !As far as staying in a dorm for 1 month, I don't think I could handle it! When I passed the dorm rooms in 2003 I didn't see any travelers, only Indians.
