Hi Indian Mikers,

So I'll be in Mumbai for Holi - I arrive fresh from the UK on the 16th March for the start of an extended trip in India. So I've got some questions on celebrating Holi in Mumbai.

1. On the web I see it is officially on 20th March. Are celebrations just on this day? Or do they last more than one day?

2. Is there a particular area of the city where I should head?

3. Any other advice?!

Many thanks,

Paul

Ok found this now: Holi festival in Mumbai

Seems like it is not all nice celebrations and good times then! I'm a 24 year old male so the groping of ladies shouldn't really be a problem for me, but doesn't exactly make it appealing to be out and about if it really is like that...

Juhu beach would be a good place to experience the public celebration of Holi in Mumbai [highly over rated "festival" in my opinion] and you can always splash about in the sea if you have had enough.

As you are a male, you have rightly observed that there would be no groping problems, but be wary of consuming any food or drink that you may be offered as chances are that it will be laced with "bhang", a drug. Some communities traditionally partake of bhang during Holi festivities.

I agree with Juhu Beach. You can join in the "festivities" on the beach or sit overlooking the beach - Citizens Hotel has outdoor seating - have a beer, take some photos, and enjoy. Don't wear anything you won't mind tossing if the color doesn't come out. Have a great time!

Ok thanks guys. I think I'll head down Juhu beach and wear my least favourite clothes then!

And Nick-H, ha yes, re-reading it I can see how you came to your initial interpretation!
