Bronze or wooden ganesh statue in Mumbai
Bronze or wooden ganesh statue in Mumbai
Hello all
I need a little help.
2 years ago I was in Delhi with my wife. In the Cottage Industries emporium on Janpath we saw a beautiful Ganesh statue. Wooden with beaten silver for highlights - e.g. the tusks. Maybe 2 foot tall.
Stunning. Price was 1 lakhs or so. Perhaps 1.2 lakh.
We both loved it but at that time we were renting a small apartment (in London) and were searching for a place to buy - so left it - to buy in the future.
To be honest it was a big mistake, if I could go back I would have bought it.
We are in Mumbai for a few days at the end of July and I was wondering if anyone could point me to good shops where I might buy something similar.
The material is less important - bronze, marble or wood. Quality needs to be excellent.
The Chola bronze Ganesh in this article would be nice:

My brother went back the year after to Cottage Industries - they said many of their pieces are one offs and nothing they had in stock was suitable.
So please, if you know where to buy beautiful preferably Ganesh statues in Mumbai, please let me know.
Thanks

You can check at the Khadi Bhandar in D.N. Road, near the Fort area, Mumbai.
Kedar Janani Devasthan, Mt Abu - Udaipur, Bharatpur, Agra, Gwalior, Orchha, Jhansi

Check also at the Central Cottage Industries Emporium (it's the same operation) in Mumbai, it's in Colaba on a main street leading from the Circle where Regal Cinema is to the Taj hotel.
(Hey, look, why did I never look this up before, or maybe it is new? Either way here's their website: http://www.cottageemporium.in/. I wouldn't expect their showcasing there to be exhaustive.)
Ganesh is particularly revered in Mumbai btw as far as I know, I reckon you'd have a good chance of finding what you seek.
Real antiques btw can't be taken out of India just like that, but anyway their wares will be kosher and certified and they'll handle all the paperwork for you and stuff, or shipping if needs be. I mean what they have will be geared to being sold and to an international market, don't worry about it. When buying elsewhere or with shops that don't provide such, you really might want to look into what are classed as antiques and hence restricted for export. I think it used to go by anything over a century old or so, you could look up the Indian Customs site for it if in doubt.

Hi, thanks so much for showing me there's a CCIE in Mumbai. TBH I thought there was only one in Delhi & didn't bother to look.
I will go to the branch & see what they have available.
As usual, it will probably give an idea of the 'fair' price for such work.
