Borivali to/from International airport?

Could someone please tell me the transport connections between Borivali train station and the International Airport?

How frequent are the local trains to/from Borivali? (also before 06:30, and after 21:30)

Is Santa Cruz, Vile Parle or Andheri the most convenient train station for the airport? (if coming from north or south?)(transport connections?)

How much would an Auto charge from these stations to the Airport?

What would be the expected travel time between Borivali and the Airport?

Would an Auto or Taxi between the Airport and Borivali be a crazy idea? how much would they cost?

I ask because a lot of trains into and out of Mumbai (Central or Dadar) call at Borivali, including the ADI Shatabdi's, and Borivali doesn't seem much further from the airport than Mumbai Central station.

Thanks for any info.

1. Local trains between Churchgate and Borivali are pretty frequent during the day, say from 06=00 a.m. to 22=00 p.m. The frequency reduces outside of these hours.

2. The most convenient station when coming from South Mumbai is Andheri, because most, if not all fast locals halt there. Even when coming from Borivali side, Andheri is most convenient for the International airport.

3. One can travel by taxi/auto/combination of train and taxi/auto between Borivali and the international airport.

4. From Andheri station to the airport an auto will take approx. 20 mins. From Borivali to the airport by auto will take an hour. A taxi will be a little faster.

5. Cannot estimate the taxi/auto costs. Perhaps some IMer in Mumbai will know the exact fares.

Depending on how much money you consider costly a taxi/auto from the Station would be best. If you have luggage then auto would not be appropriate and a taxi would be best.

Not so clued up on current taxi costs but should be under Rs.200 (if that) at worst. Can find out if you really want me to know.

Shimla - 20 mins from Andheri station would be optimistic - I would allow for 30-40 minutes depending on the time of day.

I had to be at the Airport at 2 am. (Jan 2005).....from Fort area to the airport about the same distance as Borivali to airport. Because of 2am ride I booked a taxi for Rs 200. Seemed reasonable when compared to other times I used the taxi for other journeys in mumbai.

Only at 2am there is NO traffic, got to the airport in less than 30 minutes. Nonetheless Rs 200 is Ok, considering the time of travel and luggage.

Taxi is the most efficient way to get to the Airport from Borivali and most sensible, (about 3 pounds, about $6.00), I believe. Shouldn't be more than Rs 250. Best to agree to approximately such a figure before hand.

No trains btwn 24:15 to 04:00. 04:00 to 05:30 frequency is every 15 to 20 mins. 05:30 to 23:00 every 4 mins. 23:00 to 24:15 every 15 to 20 mins

Andheri, coz all fast trains stop here. Then take auto rickshaw to airport. Around 50 to 60 rs daytime; 75 to 90 rs at night.

train=25 mins, then auto rickshaw = 25 mins; keep 15 mins buffer in the day for traffic.

I would go by taxi personally, saves a lot of hassles. The trains are very crowded and not suitable if you are carrying luggage. Auto cost = rs 140 to 165. Taxi rs 180 to 220.

Once you touch the western express highway just 1.5 kms outside Borivali stn., you can race to the Intl airport in less than 20 mins at night and maybe 35 mins daytime.

I would take a TAXI every single time. Auto rickshaw not fast enough.

Thanks all for the great info.

I was told a couple of years ago that it wasn't practical to go to Borivali, but somehow I never forgot the idea.

I don't know Borivali at all, when I said "practical" I was refering to someone telling me that it was so much easier to get to Central Mumbai (from the airport) than to Borivali.

Unless you are going to work in the area, there is no compelling reason to stay in Borivali. Unless you want to stay on the fringes of a REAL jungle with panthers in plenty. [i would like to... not scaring you off... rather attracting you!]

Trains to Borivali are easily available from the Andheri station but only if you manage to get into one of them!!! HAHAHA!!! In most hours it will be impossible for you to board one of them even if you don't have any luggage with you. There are no off peak hours for these trains in Mumbai except for sometime very early in the mornings before 6am!!! Even late at night the trains are quite full and not possible for travelling with any luggage.

Autos from Andheri should cost you not more than Rs30 in the daytime and a few rupees more after midnight to 0530 in the morning when there are night charges. Anyway please pay according to the tariff card and the meter should only read at most Rs3.10 or Rs3.20 so pay accordingly whether it is day or night charge.

But if you want to go to the Domestic terminal then Vile Parle is nearer but fast trains will not halt there so it is better to get off at Andheri and take an auto for about Rs40. From Vile Parle it will be the minimum fare of Rs9 to get to the Domestic terminal.

If you are serious about travelling by train then even in the first class it will be pretty crowded at most times but early mornings and at night after 1130pm it will be fine.

Travel time depends on when you are travelling and by which mode of transport you are taking. By auto it will be 20 minutes from the Airport to Andheri station and by train it will be 25 minutes from Andheri station. If the road is clear (like at night) then it can take about 30 minutes maximum or and about an hour in normal traffic or else it can take forever sometimes (by taxi and will be a little more by auto)!!!

I would still suggest a taxi as it is not too expensive and you can get a prepaid taxi for about Rs200 at most. Much less if you take a normal cab.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Avid Trekker and All.....Txs, appreciate details about Borivali as I was planning to LIVE there!! Now, I am having second thoughts.

Andheri and nearby areas look like a better location from the commutting point of view and cheaper.

Better is a relative term. Andheri is NOT cheaper, Borivali is. Depends on where will you be commuting to & fro.
