Bollywood dance classes

I am trying to organise Bollywood dance classes for the few days I am in Mumbai. Dates are Jan 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2010. We will be three Australian women traveling together. All loving dance and with dance experience. I have been in contact with some dance schools and thought if anyone else is in Mumbai those dates and would like to join us for a Bollywood dance class let me know.

Well am still trying to organise bollywood dance classes. I must of emailed at least 10 different dance schools.

I have confirmed one class on Sunday 3rd Jan 7pm - 8:15pm. Class will be in Colaba and I have been told price for a private class for the 3 of us is 450rs each.

Another dance school offered us a 2 hour private class for 2000rs each. Big difference in price! its more than i would pay for a private class in Australia! I think I will email her back and tell her this is way out of our budget and can she do a cheaper price.

So I am still trying to get in contact with some more dance schools to organise a class at a good price. Any one have any thoughts on what price we should pay?

10 days until I fly to India : )

sorry to break your heart

but living in India I can only tell there is no such thing as bollywood dance.... its only a means for dance classes to cash into foreigners who have no idea... I'd suggest you guys use the money to check out some bollywood flicks... much more entertaining and you'd also realise that it no big deal... and if you really want to learn indian dances - then there are bharatnatyam, kuchipudi, mohini attam, kathakali and so on... these are some of the traditional indian dances in case youre interested

Please report back on your experiences

I would be interested in joining you, but the timing isn't right for me. Could you report back on your experiences, the dance school you used and how everything went? It would be great to do something like this in the future. Have a great time!

Journey far.....
Walk in Peace.

Well I know that Bollywood is made up of alot of different classical indian style dances. I still would like to do some classes while in Mumbai and I dont believe everyone that offers bollywood classes is just catering to foriegners. Although I feel that the high price is because I am a foreigner on a holiday.

I have been doing Bollywood dance in Australia for the last 9 months. One of the girls i am going to India with is my bollywood teacher and she is Indian. I have seen a few Bollywood movies and will definitley be seeing more while in India.

Will let everyone know how our Bollywood dance experience turns out

Have had another dance school reply to me. She is happy to do a private class on Saturday evening, 2 hours for 700rs per person.
The class would be in Andheri East. Would this would be too far to get to from Kemps corner where we are staying? Anyone know how long? Would a taxi back from here late at night be safe for the three of us?

Look at a map! Andheri East is quite far from Kemps corner and the roads arent anything great. Colaba is closer.
Do or do not, there is no try.

Talking Bollywood classes

Hello.
Am a bit cofused about the dates 2009 or 2010
If 2010-Have a great trip to Mumbai.
I would try finding classes sloser to where you're staying as the traffic in Mumbai is not reliable.
try E:dance@shiamak.com or their webiste as they have Bollywood classes around Mumbai.
And Bollywood is certainly a dance style. I am a professional dancer (working in Norway,Uk,Europe&Mumbai) and know- Bollywood is a mixture of Traditional Indian Dances,Indian Folk Dances and western styles as hip hop,jazz-so whoever commented that it's not a syle is wrong!
If you google Bollywood classes in Mumbai, you will get different hits in different areas. Inr700 for a class isn't too much but they obviously will push the prices up for not-indians
Really it shouldn't be more than INR300-400-500 pr person per hour.
But only you can judge if it's to expensive for you and if your happy with the price.
Could you give me the name/email of the dance studio you had in Andheri? Coming over again in March 2010 Wanna do Bollywood classes and Bharatanatyam style.
Good luck-have fun!!!!

Hi Stacey Raina is already on her trip, she was in Mumbai this New Year's eve. Am sure she will drop you a reply when she logs in. Its interesting to know so many people are interested in Bollywood dance. Do you frequently visit Mumbai for it?

Have been and gone from Mumbai. I tried so hard to organise Bollywood dance classes for while I was there but nothing worked out.
Had confirmed one class a month before by email but when I called the day ahead to reconfirm I found the dance teacher had not booked the dance studio and as it was over new year holiday period could not organise a dance space! We were very dissapointed.
We did a bollywood tour which we really enjoyed, watched some kathak style indian dancers. We made sure we saw alot of dancing - Mammallapuram Dance Festival, Desert Festival in Jaisalmer... Favourite style was Bharatanatyam. We attended Shakti School of dance in Pushkar every day for 2 weeks. All very inspiring.
Some phone numbers for Bollywood in Mumbai
Riddhi from Stepz - 9930246031 (class that didn't work out mentioned above)
Shalet - 9820361165
Ms Ritambara Shini - 9819477748
