Groups to join

You can visit waterfalls alone. There are no signboards with directions. There are hundreds around Mumbai. You have to ask your way through. Thing is you should know Marathi as even Hindi is not spoken by the locals in the villages. If you want to join up a group, this is the right season. You will have to PM me [for which you are not qualified yet (anyone qualifies after 10 posts and 15 days on IM)]

Check Post No.11 at Forests in Maharashtra
for directions to get to Vihigaon from Kasara. From Navi Mumbai, you need to get onto NH3 [Nashik highway] and keep going upto Jawhar phata just beyond Kasara.
As you are not familiar with the place, its better if you join a group as Avid Trekker has suggested, or ask your work colleagues to organise a waterfall picnic.
Malshej Ghat has fabulous waterfalls, its about 2 hrs drive from Navi Mumbai.
I believe there is a huge waterfall - Pandavkada - at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai which you could also enquire about.
In any event, dont go yet, given the present lull in the monsoons. Wait for mid July for more 'water' flow in the falls. When the monsoons are in full force, the Kanheri caves at Sanjay Gandhi NP at Borivili, also become respectable waterfalls.
Have fun, and do post your experiences.

Hello GoodfriendSorry, no idea about road conditions on NH-3 at the moment, beyond Bhiwandi Kalyan phata [upto there it is good]. 4 lane work is in progress so obviously there will be some congestion given the volume of heavy truck traffic on this route. With the recent revival of the monsoons, Im sure you can also expect some potholes! If you want to take the much longer but less congested and very scenic route, take NH-3 upto Bhiwandi Kalyan phata, then turn left towards Wada and continue along the Wada Khodala road. The route is extremely scenic from Wada onwards with hardly any traffic. The road was just re surfaced prior to the monsoons, so will still be good [2 weeks ago it was good].
Igatpuri is a convenient place to stay for exploring this region. Quite a few hotels and resorts at varying budgets. Ganaka Motel on the highway is the cheapest and Ashwin, Manas, etc., probably the most expensive. There is also a high budget resort at Khodala, dont remember the name now but will post if I do.
Incidentally, about 2 months ago I read in the ToI that all the trees of the Middle Vaitarna region have been chopped, as the region is slated to be submerged as part of the dam project. The Vihigaon waterfalls will still be there [in spate at present] but I wonder how the region will look like now, devoid of its beautiful dense forest.
Do post if you go there.

thanks
Sorry Goodfriend, Ive also heard about it and seen the signboard once at Jawhar phata. Perhaps you could try a google or similar search. Try holidayiq.com they have some local resort contact details, or nivalink. Do post your experiences.
Hiking to Vihigaon
Hi guys,
I plan to go hiking to some place around Igatpuri this weekend (just for a day). I was going through IM and came accross Vihigaon. Is it ok to go there during mid April?
Online reviews about hiking around Igatpuri during summers seems to have taken the steam out of my plan
I've been to bhandardara during the monsoons and want to go to a different place this time.
I am basically a ntaure lover and any place that offers a cool breeze with sounds of birds and peace of mind can qualify.
Anyone please help me out!

At Khodala itself, ask for Dohi waterfalls.. a 30 min walk (you will need a guide the first time).
