Beach close to Mumbai (Murud?)

Dear all, who can give me a good reccomendation for a beach close to Mumbai? Goa is too far away and the travel is too expensive for the time we have.
Now I found Murud on the net. has someone been here?
Is it nice and what about accomation.
thanks!

Murud Janjira is a wonderful beach, the best near Mumbai...., but I am not sure if there are any nice hotels there, you would find hotels in Alibag and from there Murud is about 1-1.5 hrs drive.
The awesome thing about Murud is its blue sea and a small little island where you can reach by boat. Its a less crowded beach, so good break from the maddening crowd of Mumbai...

What about Juhu? The last time I walked on this beach was in 1978. It was clean and beautiful. Has it changed?

Juhu beach is right in the hub of the city. I dont know about 1978, but now its lined up with residential apartments, bungalows and hotels. Also its very crowded with morning joggers, afternoon strollers, evening walkers.

So if you want to have peaceful time on a beach, sunbathing, taking a dip and all best is to go out of Mumbai (Bombay).

Try Kashid. Take the catamaran from the Gateway of India and then a rickshaw from Mandva to Kashid. Stay at the Kashid Beach Resort.

It's fairly peaceful and uninhabited, so you feel that you're on a private beach. Also, the locals dont fish commercially so the beach is pristine.
