bandra digs (Mumbai)
I'm a first timer to India, needing to find a place to stay on my own in Mumbai until my other friends arrive. Does anyone know a good place to stay in the neighborhood of Bandra??
Cheers!! |

$50 tops, but would really prefer something less, just not sure what is reasonable to expect there!

Its possible you might have to stretch your budget just a wee little bit.
There are a few places which are on my way to a friends place that i have to go this evening. I will try & get details. |

$50 per day is more than enough for stay in bandra...there are many cheap and good hotels which will charge you less than $50 and if you have contacts you can stay as a paying guest with some catholic family for much cheaper...

I imagine you'll get the info you actually want, meanwhile I will add to this thread that I stayed at Executive Enclave in Bandra, which was more like 100 usd, and liked it very much. It's near Linking Road, as to things someone might have heard of that I can name.

Bandra is expensive though there are small hotels (around Bandra) as well as hostels. I know of one or two hotels in Khar (pretty close to Bandra), think I had to pay Rs. 2700/- ($65) per day.
If you're staying longer (say a few weeks) then a hostel is a cheaper option and definitely safer if you're scouting for low budget places. They work out to around Rs.5000/6000 per month around $5 a day! Let me know whats preferable. I stay in a hostel accomodation myself and find it very convenient. |

Hey, is there a place i can mail you the number of this hosel to? You may pm the same. I know this lady and i'm not sure if i can share the no. on a public forum.
It's very difficult to get a place here tho and mostly overbooked. I've tried to get a place there once for my sis but didn't. But if one live's out of a suitcase; a hostel's the best place and definitely worth the try. It may be twin sharing tho. And about things to do in bombay. I don't think i have patience enuf to write out everything. There's LOTTS you can do here. Explore the city, visit old Parsi Fire Temples, art galleries, take a speed boat ride off the gateway of india, try the local trains once.... too many things actually. How long are u here for? |

Very happy if this list keeps being useful to people. I liked having it with me when I went there though I didn't do many of the things -- more for next time. One thing I am sure I got from that list was the 20 minute boat ride from the Gateway of India -- we had a kid with us and we didn't want to take the longer sightseeing ride so this was perfect.
As a New Yorker with a small apartment I understand very well the good time/bad time for guests thing. A few years ago Time Out New York had a great feature on entertaining out of town guests, with different itineraries, and one of them was exactly what you've got in mind -- a keep-them-busy-on-their-own itinerary. As I recall, the longer sightseeing boatrides and busrides featured prominently in it. |

yes, you can send me the number at my email address: roeamanda@gmail.com - and as for how long I will be in Mumbai, I am not sure - I think I have about 5 days there on my own, and then friends of mine will arrive, and will probably want to stay a while too.....
thank you for the suggestions of things to do!! Quote:
