Autorickshaw in Mumbai

Do the autos in Mumbai go by meter?.
Is there a chart or do I need to pay some indicated amount in the meter (as it is in Delhi --when they consent to go by meter)>

And how much would a 15 km trip cost roughly?.
Thanks
Vishal

Yes they go by the meter, you can request them the traffic card to check the cost for your trip !

Cheers

Autos are permitted to fly only in the Suburban Mumbai i.e., Sion to Mulund/Mankhurd on Eastern Suburbs and Bandra to Dahisar on Western Suburbs.

Autos go by meter only except very few places where 'share autos' are plying.

I don't know how much a 15 km trip by auto will cost. But the rule of thumb is that you should multiply the metered amount by 10 minus 1. For example, if the meter shows the fare of Rs.5.00, you should pay Rs.49/-.

I dont believe in Rs.60 for 15 Km..

Autos in Delhi are cheaper than Mumbai and for 15Km we end up paying around Rs.80 Delhi.

hi, You can trust most of the Autowalas in mumbai as they charge u by meter but insist on showing the card which all the autowalas have.the fare for the night after midnight is higher.so take care.

lets have an example, from the airport to my old place was about 8.5km, and I would expect to pay Rs.60-70 for this trip, which I took many times. also note that at peak times this would take over an hour! and the meters run on time as well as distance.
