I lived in LA for 10 years before coming here. The world is a tiny place and we sure are all connected! Watching all the news today.. I think India can feel how much sympathy is coming from the whole world. |

Headlines on Times Now saying that terrorist said they planned to blow up the Taj ... "just like we blew up the Marriott in Pakistan" ... they had enough explosives to blow it up
sorry if that already posted... I have not had time to read all previous posts |

The explosives were shipped into Bombay before the terrorists arrived.

account of how terroists reached mubai
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/I...23,curpg-2.cms
Azam reportedly disclosed that the group left Karachi in one boat and upon reaching Gujarat they hoisted a white flag on their boat and were intercepted by two officers of the coast guard near Porbandar and while they were being questioned one of the terrorists grappled with one of the officers slit his throat and threw the body in the boat. The other officer was told to help the group reach Mumbai. When they were four nautical miles away from Mumbai there were three speedboats waiting for them where the other coastguard officer was killed. All the ammo was then shifted into these three spedboats they reached Colaba jetty on Wednesday night and the ten men broke up into groups of two each. Four of these men went to the Taj Mahal hotel, two of them to the Trident hotel, two towards Nariman House at Colaba and two of which Azam was one moved to CST

It sounds as if the terrorist they have captured and are getting information from... yes... has claimed he is part of the same group that blew up the Marriott. No more news on that as yet... it was just a headline along the bottom of the screen on Times Now
chilling.. |

Ahem, watch out now, Jude, it's just what's being reported.
I was watching some folks gravely going on about these terrorists themselves (emphasis on themselves!, you know what I mean) referring to 9/11 and blah. Yes, one would expect they would, must be something of a symbol to them, right. Don't let yourselves get swept away so easily. Please. Financial heart of Mumbai attacked? Yes, makes sense. Crude yet efficient weapons easy to get? I never tried, but they're rumored to be where I live. We have the regular arms catches to make us believe so in any case (and then the criminal assassinations to support it). Arms training? Ever been in the army, or have a friend who has? Etc.

They did not anticipate early resistance (? huh... )
Plan to destroy symbols of economic strength Now the headline saying they wanted to make it out to be like the Marriott in Pakistan .. make it worse than 9/11 all this from Times Now headlines |

No, I saw that capture live, it was just about these guys allegedly referring to we'll do the same thing here (as proclaimed by some expert or journalist). It doesn't mean they're the same people. It also doesn't tell me they really meant to blow up these hotels in the same way. If they could have and had intended to, I see no reason to assume they couldn't have. That they may have referred to it vocally doesn't surprise me, that must be their mythology and frame of reference don't you think. (I'm frankly no sooner than this is over or perhaps well before it getting sick and tired of the way the media and perhaps the politicians and other power-mongers that steer them are making easy gain out of this.)
It should have one realize btw that Pakistan can't reasonably be argued to support people to blow itself up (as they did with the Marriott in Islamabad, and have been doing for decades just as in India). Things just aren't so simple. Many of these terrorist or insurgent outfits are bugging the Pakistani authorities no less. And then you get ISI and blah blah, yes, I know about all that, let's please discuss it somewhere else. |

Lots of very emotional scenes of funerals. So many people affected forever by this tragedy.
I am going to let the day unfold for a while. Have to get on with some regular things. But I will keep checking in. |

Thank you guys for updating. I will sign out now - do the shopping I planned to do two days ago. WIll go to Grant Road and, stupid maybe, but I still am slightly afraid to go south. Well, as soon as I am outside it will be over. Bombay is back to normal. Lets hope it stays that way and politicians and others are able to keep speculations un-biased.
Never thought I would spend two full days on IM. But I am very very grateful to mridula, judecg, lil'- sorry can't remember full name- and all the others who have sat through so much TV covering and send us the updates. Thankyouthankyouthankyou. See you later. |
