The no of terrorists were reported to be between 20 and 25. The spokesman says there are a total of 477 commandos carrying the operations.

That says something about how impossibly tough it is to succesfully carry out such risky operations in densely populated areas.

BBC :

1147 Reporters at the scene describe the situation at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel as "a stand-off" between the army and a lone gunman, with soldiers firing grenades towards a second-floor window.

One of the commandos killed is 28-year old Indian army Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who was deputed to the NSG. There is a facebook entry for him here ...

How utterly sad and senseless this whole thing is.

Amazing scenes on Times Now. The 3rd floor window at nariman House has smoke blowing out of it.

They are reporting that the commandos are moving in from bottom up and top down to sandwhich the terrorists from all sides.

In a seperate report, an aircraft has taken off from delhi with another 125 commandos headed for Mumbai.

single terrorist apparently left inside the ballroom at the taj at the moment, explosion heard behind BBC news reporter whilst on live TV, believed to be a hand grenade or stun grenade.

think someone was asking what a stun grenade was? stun grenade is a term usually saved for the movies - there more commonly known as flasbangs - and do what the name suggests, very intense flash, blinding the victim, and a bang to deafen them for up to a minute. Generally makes the victim very easy to hit with a gun, giving the upperhand in a gun fight

Any political significance/indication of summoning ISI chief by Indian PM? Does India want to initiate any active military action like troop mobilisation along Western border like 2001 response to parliament attack or carry out Iraq -Afghanistan style counter terrorism operation in path of US-UK allied forces?

Please note... there has been no mention as far as I've seen of martial law being imposed.

News channels saying they have info they can't divulge at this time.

floors 1, 2, 3, 5 and the rooftop are secure at Nariman. Looks like it all comes down to 4

No signs of life apparently.

In few hours, this incident would enter its 3rd day.

Night is quickly falling on Mumbai. I haven't slept properly for past 2 nights and its getting up to 11:15 pm here in Sydney.

Will stay on for some more time though.
