Cordons in Mumbai

Well, I went out to get a takeaway, and the security cordons in Bandra (I'm guessing All of Mumbai is like this) is unprecedented - Taj Lands End, in Bandra is a fortress at the moment, and I was stopped and searched 3 times while driving less than a mile down the road and back (live in Hill Road).

That will not stop anything, it achieved very little in the 1980s in Punjab. Instead a pro active approach was required to deal with the problem. The same in Kashmir, there are tens of thousands of soldiers but still no security.

They sure are, some of the policemen have been on duty for more than 24 hours now and now they have to line the roads so the PM and opposition can visit hospitals for publicity photos.

Everyone...

The facts are still unfolding and this thread is invaluable in keeping people updated. Political views and attempts at trolling will not be tolerated. I am deleting the posts that I feel are out of line.

Please respect the seriousness and gravity of the situation.

24 hrs and counting - the world is watching - politicians coming in for a lot of flak, electons around the corner and its going to be an election issue, thats for sure - what I'm getting from the people I've spoken to is: who can we trust to guarantee our safety?

bandra's cordoned off?
my worst fears - there are some of them on the lose - and who knows what next.

nadreg - keep them posts - please... them posts were a moment of whatever.
if we cannot moderate ourselves in a forum - what hope is there about what we do where we live.
thank you.

shere - come on... keep it for later.
there's a city in siege for 24 hrs - and its getting worse.
opinions can wait - lives are being lost in the time being.
come on - show some solidarity.
thanks.

that goes for alot others as well - whom i havent mentioned.
its a time to light candles - not a time for dispute.

I'm afraid it's impossible to guarantee safety. There is no remedy against this kind of attacks.

Zee TV news just reported that one of the terrorists 'accidently dropped' his phone out of a hotel window whilst throwing a hand grenade. All of the mobiles call history was to Karachi, Pakistan.

Update from the media: The newspapers are working frantically to get their late editions out, but the headlines keep changing (source: wife, who works with Times of India - dunno when she gets home!) Everyone has multiple editions out, and its all hands on deck - the media plays a vital role in defining public opinion, and its MY opinion that they show more respect and restraint in their reporting and editorials than the TV channels...

My two cents worth.

Someone I know is missing - she married Mukherji's (MD of Oberoi) son - my thoughts are with her and all the people unaccounted for.

Love and light
