There just seems to be so many contradictory reports on whether there are/were hostages. Whether they terrorists are speaking Urdu or Punjabi. Apparantly one of the captured terrorists is confirmed to be from Faridkot, Pakistan but then NDTV also says some of the terrorists pretending to be from Hyderabad.

Can actually see security forces in the windows of the New Taj... searching the rooms... thorough searches. very exhaustive.. not just looking for people.. behind curtains, under beds etc... for bombs. man... a HUGE job

More details of the bodge up by those in power now leaking. The NSG commandoes were not given the go ahead till after 12 midnight and then it took 3 hours to get them to Mumbai and they were not given any maps/layouts of the hotels during this time to help plan a counter operation. What a bunch of muppets are in power in India.

Shere, I think people here are trying to provide ongoing coverage in as down-to-earth a fashion as possible, without any incendiary remarks. Maybe out of piety if nothing else people want to respect this, it also won't help people looking for a practical view of what's going on on the ground, who one might expect are avidly following this thread, one can see (on the "who's online" page) many members as well as guests have been doing so since it began. That fingers point in all directions in the meantime and at a time like this is only to be expected, it's not telling you much as such, witness only all those constantly changing and conflicting reports, which are again and in themselves only to be expected. (And that many of those fingers would point towards Pakistan and/or Al-Qaeda-affiliated groups among a host of others is hardly eye-opening news, is it.)
Meanwhile, you give me a city of some 20 million people and tell me how to adequately secure it.

Well its bloody stupid and no objective will be achieved like this if anything it will perpetuate bloodshed as we all know. Its a possibility intercepts of radio communications were an indication of their origin as said on tv by an indian general who did name city's. I am not going to mention which ones but it was reported that.

However you have to be on the ball when countering these dirty dogs and the Indian government (state and central) have failed in the counter terrorism operations. Firstly the ATS are sent to deal with the events, they had sod all training in dealing with such matters, they may be good at shooting people in dodgy encounters but against a motivated terrorist they are not going to do much). The NSG are not given the nod till after midnight and then it takes 3 hours to airlift them to Mumbai (that is poor logistics). Then they give the brave NSG guys no maps/layouts for their areas of operation. |

Enormous criticism now for the government. It's now reminding me of the $%#$#$@ that was Hurricane Katrina. I wonder if the result will be the same... outrage and then pretty instant apathy...

Maybe there will be an army presence on the streets of India for the next few years to provide more security? The last thing many governments want is for tourists to be attacked in their country.

To top it off the likes of the PM have turned up. Police personnel have not had sleep for a day and now they have to divert thousands to secure the route from the airport to the hospital. Well done Mr PM and the other political babus now on their way to Mumbai.
