Firing at Oberoi

Major blast at Oberoi - heavy firing at the Oberoi on the higher floors.

Heavy firing at the Taj too - ambulances being brought in to the lobby area.

Taj is suffering structural damage - will take months to rebuild.
There seem to be way more terrorists than the forces anticipated.
Resistance is strong, and this is going to take a lot of TIME to resolve.

here is one blogger's opinion, was sent to me in an email...
http://www.scottcarneyonline.com/blo...error-age.html

here is the latest from the New York Times -- http://www.nytimes.com/pages/index.html?partner=rss

seems to me it is a new age of terror in India and the tactics used to combat it must change, the old ways won't work anymore. from what I have been reading and watching about citizens' reactions to it, it reminds me of americans reactions after 9/11 -- shock, disbelief -- a new day has dawned for y'all.

Army GOC says the terrorists are from across the border.. potentially.. also says they are speaking punjabi...

he thinks there are probably 10-12 inside the Trident/Oberoi altogether

NDTV:

There may be NO hostages in the Trident hotel, only people who have holed up whilst scared.

Also 20 terrorists may have escaped in the madness, some sources say the terrorists speak in Punjabi.

from another NY Times article today --
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/28/wo...p.html?_r=1&hp

"On Sept. 15, an e-mail published in Indian newspapers and said to have been sent by representatives of Indian Muhajedeen threatened potential “deadly attacks” in Mumbai. The message warned counter-terrorism officials in the city that “you are already on our hit-list and this time very, very seriously.”

Several high-ranking law enforcement officials, including the chief of the antiterrorism squad and a commissioner of police, were, indeed, reported killed in the attacks in Mumbai."

hope you're right... haven't heard that at all yet... hope so though... would like to think the hostages got away. Since they have yet to actually confront the terrorists I'm not sure though.

News

Major General Houda of the Indian army just said that the NSG commandos are reporting back that the terrorists are speaking in a dialect of Urdu. He also reiterated that the captured terrorist (from Trident) has been confirmed as being from Pakistan.

Asif Ali Zardari has offered support to Sonia Gandhi in the matter; however that is a standard operating procedure.

Narendra Modi, the firebrand Hindutva politician of Gujarat is also coming to Bombay. If nuclear war can be avoided, it will be an equally difficult task to avoid religious violence, as Modi and the Shiv Sena have a reputation of whipping up a storm of anti-muslim sentiment.

Condolances to the families of those killed.

The Indian government does not have the backbone to hit back. RAW and the IB know exactly where the terrorist training camps are located in pakistan so why not give them a bloody nose ?

The whole thing has been handled badly by the police, even simple things such as screening those escaping the Taj etc was not done. They might as well have had mickey mouse in charge of the whole situation.
