Trust, if a moderator leaves a mod note, that isn't an invitation to discussion. The blue color is meant to remind you of this.

I think you are aware since you've contributed there that a backgrounds thread has been started here: http://www.indiamike.com/india/masal...allout-t67212/. (Not open to very new members btw, it's in the Masala or formerly the Off-Topic forum, which is an effective measure to stop people from just getting in for the sake of argument.)

This thread was and is meant for relevant news updates. (I've not been very good at sticking to such myself, find it hard to not have your particular slant show through. That's maybe why I'm aware of it.)

Hello all... we are all feeling dazed by these events. The stories of the survivors and people who escaped are making all the events seem even realer and more horrific. Now news channels are full of the conjecture about who, why and how. I'm not sure we can even begin to update on all those things, and with the waves of anti-Pakistani/muslim sentiment that always happens post terror events, updating all the rumours only seems a negative and unhelpful thing to do.

I am not presuming to make the decision for the moderators. But perhaps we ought to think about either opening up the thread restrictions slightly (without getting into those that fuel anger) .. or closing the thread and seeing its place as a terribly sad but valuable timeline and snapshot of this moment in our Nation and world's history.

thoughts?

I think there's some use in retaining a thread for more general comments/commiserations/non political talk, but a name change is definitely in order.
I still have no TV, so updates on what's happening now are useful to me and I guess to others.

If it falls apart then happy to close.

What sort of criteria have to be met for a member to access this thread ?
I've been registered since August, but am not allowed to read it yet, apparently.
I'm leaving for Mumbai tomorrow, so I'd like to read it and keep updated.

Hm yes. I think you need 50 posts to access that forum.

You need to understand it's just to stop people from causing havoc there.

Also the Masala C&C thread won't keep you updated, this one will. The other one is for amateur pundits!

Sorry Sonny

We've already booked our tickets.

The IRA didn't stop me ghoing shopping in London and this lot certainly won't stop me going to Bombay for a couple of months this winter.

Once they make you change your plans they've won.

Scene of Unimaginable Carnage Inside Taj Majal Hotel

You can go to the following US website which gives you info as is:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,459245,00.html
and http://www.foxnews.com

They report:

"The scene Saturday night inside the Taj Majal hotel was one of unimaginable carnage in the immediate aftermath of the terrorist onslaught across Mumbai.

Two Indian commandos told FOX News that 150 bodies still were inside the hotel, and dead victims were found all over the hotel, on all five floors.

The terrorists used incendiary bombs, or grenades thrown on gas or fuel canisters, indicating they had access to the Taj hotel in advance, though the Taj Majal hotel denies any staffers were involved......
Terrorists are far more advanced today. We didn't realize that they had satellite phones for communication or that they would be so advanced and use incendiary bombs," one commando said. The siege was particularly troubling because "they didn't spare women or children."

The world needs to learn from this and come up with a whole new strategy. I think we need young highly-trained unmarried commandos with high-tech gears like night vision goggles to deal with modern terrorists and fight fire with fire.

I believe some of the terrorists escaped and out there somewhere. Despite that, we are still coming to Mumbai in three-weeks.

So that they don't leave wife and children behind, and won't be afraid of dying, as they have no "loved-one"?

I guess they will have parents, friends, and loved-ones...
