apartment rental in Mumbai or Pune

Hi,
I'm a Canadian planning to live in India for 8 months. I am considering Mumbai or Pune. I lived in Hyderabad, India for about 2 years and have only been in Mumbai twice for a few days. I haven't been to Pune at all. So I might just arrive in India and then have a look at both Mumbai and Pune in person before deciding. My questions. Does anyone have any suggestions for finding rental apartments? Is it worth looking online for places to rent, or is it best to look once I arrive. What resources do you recommend when I'm in India (newspapers, etc..)? When I lived in Hyderabad my apartment was found for me, so I didn't have to go through this process. I'm looking for an apartment for one person, and I don't have a lot of stuff, so small is ok, as long as it has it's own bathroom and air conditioner. Also, (relatively) quite locations are good. Any suggestions on locations in Mumbai and Pune? Finally, any suggesetions on temporary accomodation for a few days or weeks until I get settled? Thanks!!
